or D is for Pictures of Delicious Food
I had a Pub Salad. It was delicious. |
Last weekend, Ward and I met Wally for lunch to celebrate Wally's birthday and Ward's retirement. We were at an Irish Pub, and each of us got a delicious meal. Before we started to eat, Wally asked if I wanted to take a picture of my food since that seemed to be the thing to do. I said sure, why not.
I was indifferent to the question because I'm not in the habit of photographing my food to share on social media. It just doesn't interest me that much, but I may be in the minority. Food pictures seem to be everywhere. Also, I've noticed that attitudes have changed about it. Several years ago, I had conversations with various people who said it was ridiculous that people were sharing pictures of what they were eating. Their attitude was, "Who cares?" Now some of these same people share what they are eating -especially if it's a meal out.
I won't say that I've never taken a picture of food and shared it on social media. I have done that on occasion here, but it is usually in the form of some kind of produce from the garden or a picture to go with a rare recipe that I post. If you look back through this blog, you may see more photos of rotten food than anything else from my longtime participation in the Frugal Girl's Food Waste Friday posts.

So you may wonder where the pictures are of Wally's and Ward's delicious meals? Their pictures didn't turn out. I guess if I'm going to join the rest of the world and share photos of food, I need more practice. :)
Do you enjoy seeing what others are eating? Do you like to share pictures of what you're eating?
Until next time...
I am not a salad person but that pub salad does look yummy. I am aware of people posting pictures of their food but since that is not something that interests me I can't say I notice it much. However, cookbooks MUST have glossy color pictures of the end result. I will not look at cookbook that is nothing but black and white and read all over.
ReplyDeleteI often get salads when I go out because they have a lot of ingredients that I don't want to buy for the small amount needed for a salad. I will read a cookbook without pictures, but pictures are much preferable.
DeleteThat salad looks good.
ReplyDeleteI love food and I love taking pictures, so I tend to take a lot of food photos. I just don't always share them. The only time I mind seeing food photos is when someone is trying to push a certain style of eating on everyone else. Other than that, I enjoy seeing them. One of my friends started a cooking/recipe group on Facebook during the COVID shutdown. Somehow, it really helped to not feel so isolated to see mundane pictures of what other people were eating for dinner. Happily, the group is still going strong.
Before everyone had a good camera on their cell phone, there was a website called Food Porn that featured a picture a day of really appetizing food. The desserts were my favorite. It was a popular website, so I guess people do like to pictures of food.
DeleteI like the idea of your recipe/cooking group. I should form one of those for encouragement. Cooking is not my thing.
The salad looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteI take photos of foods if I am sharing the recipe or how to, but they are not staged food pictures. They are literally of my meal at the kitchen table.
If I take pictures of food for the blog, they happen just like yours do - just where they are on the counter or table.
DeleteSounds like your meal out was fun and tasty! My daughter and son like to take pictures of meals they have had (my son is away at college) and send them to each other. I think, at least on my daughter's part, it's a form of sibling torture--"you have to eat yucky dorm food and I get THIS delicious thing" kind of a mindset. I do sometimes take pictures of baked goods that have turned out well--I'm not sure why I do that, since I don't post on social media ....
ReplyDeleteThat's sweet that your kids are communicating through their food pictures. My son sends me pictures of what he's cooked sometimes because it's a big deal when he cooks anything new. He is gradually expanding his repertoire.
DeleteI think most bake goods are pretty, so I could understand why you would want to take a picture of ones that turn out well.
I actually do enjoy seeing pictures of what people are eating. I rarely post anything like that myself, but the photos are kind of nice. To me the most annoying photos are the ones on a menu that look nothing like what you actually get when your order comes.

Tossing It Out
That is annoying when you get something different than what you think you ordered. It would better to have no pictures at all.
DeleteYour salad does look delicious! What are the fried items on the top? I'm guilty of taking food pictures to post on my blog, a picture being worth a thousand words and all that! :D
ReplyDeleteThat's fried chicken on top and it was nicely seasoned and quite delicious. Your blog features what you cook and what food you and your neighbors share. I like the pictures because I'm not familiar with many of the foods. Because, as you said, a picture is worth a thousand words.
DeleteFor about a year or so before I got busy with other things, I did reviews on Yelp of restaurants we would go to. I always took pictures to include in the reviews so I got used to taking pictures and then sharing them on Yelp and sometimes on my blog. My husband got used to waiting to start eating, after we said prayers, for me to pull out my cell phone to snap a few pictures. Now I'll take pictures of what we make at home and sometimes think of putting together a blog post but haven't yet. Maybe sometime later in the challenge this month :)
ReplyDeleteHappy retirement to Ward and happy birthday to Wally!
Your Pub salad looks delicious!
betty
So you were a restaurant reviewer, of sorts. Was that fun? I look forward to your post of some of your home dishes.
DeleteThat pub salad looks delish!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed it and it was big enough that I got to enjoy it a couple of days.
