or Whenever-I-Get-Around-to-It Check In
We made sure that Leo could get to his favorite window when we were stowing things. |
Last night was one of those nights that sleep eluded me for several hours. Sometimes it just happens, but I'm always careful to warn those around me that I'm going to be cranky after one of those nights. I really need regular sleep. If this happened very often, I would have to take up drinking caffeine.
In other news, work was slated to begin on our construction yesterday, February 1. However, we got a surprise Sunday afternoon that they were coming Monday. That sped up our clearing of the work areas, and we were thankful that Wally was here to help. All was ready Monday morning when they showed up.
When we weren't packing things up, we were out shopping. The contractor is supplying most of the materials, but we are picking up a few things for the jobs we've added. Over the last few days, we have purchased two toilets, two faucets, and a vanity top. Still on our list is a garbage disposal and cabinet pulls, which by the way, are really expensive if you get better than the very cheapest ones. Or maybe it's not so bad, except we need 44 of them.
Before this project, the cats were fed in the kitchen, and it took them a little while to find their new feeding spot in the bathroom. Leo seems nonplussed by the whole operation, but Annie visits the workers regularly and yells at them. I think her message is I don't like you messing with my food because she is more food-oriented than any other cat we've had. But she is chowing down regularly in the new spot.
Here are a few pictures.
We have put stuff everywhere, much of it in the basement. We will move the old fridge and range down there and use that as our kitchen for the duration. |
This is what the kitchen looked like when I went to work yesterday. |
So until next time, she says, wishing she had taken a shower before the water to the house got turned off.
Ugh! Stuff everywhere AND no water. I know that those are first world problems but it can be frustrating.
ReplyDeleteWe also opted not to get a water hookup for our fridge. In our case, we would have had to install new lines since our house currently doesn't have them. That added to the expense and since we aren't huge users of ice, we decided against that. I'm somewhat leery of water to a fridge, anyway. Probably one of my many quirks but it seems like the lines could get icky.
I hope your cats continue to adapt. I was amused to see all of your Aldi food items. My pantry has many of the same things in it. :)
Yes, first world problems for sure. I will have water by this evening and many in the world won't. It's something that I sometimes forget.
DeleteAldi's is my favorite grocery store. I was skeptical for several years until the Frugal Girl convinced me to try it. Slowly but surely, I tried and liked most of their products and now it's our go to store even though there are closer ones. But, of course, Aldi's doesn't carry everything, so we go to the other stores, too.
I hope the entire remodel takes place in record time so you will not have to be too inconvenienced. We have lived through 3 remodels and I will never do it again. We are going to have our master bath redone soon so I guess I will eat those words!
ReplyDeleteI don't know of any remodel that takes place in record time except the ones on TV and who knows how many people are working behind the scenes on those shows.
DeleteWhile it's not fun, we are lucky that we have enough room to spread into and still be able to move around.
These kind of projects are no fun going through at all, but it will be so nice when it's all finished up!
ReplyDeleteWe've done several things to this house but they were either outside or done before we moved in. This is the first one we've done inside and it is quickly bringing back memories of remodels in other houses. But this is a situation where the "No pain, no gain," seems to apply.
DeleteWow, from a warm friendly kitchen to a lonely barren space. But soon you'll have that nice new kitchen. Sure is inconvenient in the meantime.
ReplyDeleteIt's supposed to warm up today, so if it stops raining, maybe we'll cook on the grill. We're also going to rig up another shelf below the table in the living room to have a little more space. The important part of all of this is that we left our bedroom the same (except for an extra lamp), so we can retreat into there to get out of the clutter if we want.
DeleteIt's good to see the cats are adjusting to the upheaval of the remodeling project! :) You've done well to keep the bedroom clear of clutter and setting up a temporary kitchen in the living room along with your husband's office. The upheaval will be worth it when everything is completed. :)
ReplyDeleteThe cats are doing okay although I found Leo hiding under the covers yesterday. He hasn't done that in a long time, but he came out when I showed up.
