K is for Kitchen Window or
Well, actually I did go outside this week for a Second Look, but I also did a fair amount of looking through my
kitchen window because of the weather. It has been cold, windy, and wet including some snow. Despite the more winter-like weather, everything is continuing to green-up. In fact, we cut the back forty last week, and the front of the yard could also use it's first cut. Maybe when it stops raining we can get to it.
Here are some things I saw this week
during a Second Look.

| Tufted-Titmouse. Notice the bolt that Ward installed on the suet feeder. The squirrels had gotten into the habit of opening the door and carrying the entire cake off--even after we wired it shut. So far, they haven't been able to open this arrangement. |

Sunrise out the kitchen window is my favorite of your beautiful pics that remind me of nature constantly changing her "attire."

DeleteI've never seen a turkey vulture before. Are they common to your area?
ReplyDeleteTurkey vultures (also known as buzzards) are fairly common here year round. I looked up their range and see that in your area, they visit in the summer and breed.
DeleteYour pictures are so fun! We had horrible wintry weather last week but are looking forward to spring returning this weekend. I especially enjoy your pictures of a blue sky. I crave color at this time of year.

DeleteI am laughing at the vulture picture. Not what most people think of as picture worthy. I passed about a half dozen on the way home from the lake. It looked like they were doing some fine dining on a raccoon carcass.
ReplyDeleteThe sunrise is just magnificent! I might actually get up for sunrise if that is what I saw outside my window.
While I see vultures around, I usually don't notice them in my yard that much. I think the wings being out on this one had something to do with how windy it was that day. Because it put its wings out a couple of times, but didn't take off.
DeleteWhile I like to take pictures of flowers and other pretty things, mostly I am just trying to document natural things I see in my yard. Sometimes they're pretty, and sometimes their not.
You do have a great view out your K window. Love those bluebirds. My Bleeding Hearts are so pretty this year.
ReplyDeleteI've seen more bluebirds around this year than usual. I love watching them. They're such a pretty shade of blue.

I tried taking a picture of a vulture this week too. It had landed on my neighbor's pool enclosure so I was trying to investigate why, but then one of my indoor cats escaped into the backyard so I lost track of the vulture. We have a fertilizer plant not too far away so we see plenty of them but usually not in our backyard.

When my son saw the nut and bolt on the suet feeder he said the only thing we were doing was teaching squirrels how to undo a nut and bolt. I hope he's wrong.
