I am thankful for my father-in-law.

Yesterday, we celebrated my FIL's 93rd birthday. It was a typical family afair in his backyard with family and friends. With fans, plenty of shade structures, and cold drinks, the 90-degree temperatures weren't too bad. Add to that music and little kids running around, and it was a festive time indeed.

My father-in-law has lived a good life despite some tragedies and contributed positively to the lives of so many others. And as part of this life, he and my mother-in-law raised four amazing children, including Ward. I have definitely benefited from this.
So, for the wonderful human being my father-in-law is and the excellent example he set for Ward, I am thankful.
Until next time...

Wow, a family band!!!! Happy Birthday Stan! What a shindig!
ReplyDeleteYes, it was a proper shindig! :)
Delete93 Is definitely a commendable number to celebrate. Glad there were fans, shade and cold drinks...and music!
ReplyDeleteI was worried about the heat, but it wasn't as bad as it could have been. However, I did go inside a couple of times to get refreshed.
DeleteWhat a wonderful way to celebrate 93 years!!! Happiest of birthday wishes!
ReplyDeleteMy FIL says he doesn't want a celebration, but we tell him it's not for him. It's for us because we want to celebrate him.
DeleteI would absolutely love to hear the family band. I hope your FIL enjoyed his party! What a great picture of him playing the bongo drums!
ReplyDeleteThere are some quite accomplished musicians in the family. A lot of what they play are folk and blue grass music. Depending on who's there, there are guitars, mandolins, fiddle, bass, harp, dulcimer, flute, trombone and bongos. The trombone player is quite good and surprisingly can fit in with the blue grass music.
DeleteLove it. I have a free 3-month Sirius XM Radio subscription, which I mostly enjoy for the Bluegrass Junction station.
DeleteWhat a guy! 93 and playing the bingos!
ReplyDeleteThe family band looks like such fun. Are any of them still in WV?
These are my husband's side of the family most of them are from Virginia and Maryland, but they went caving for many years in WV.
DeleteWhat a lovely get together. My grandfather is 97 and he loves when folks can visit with him and stay a while. It's so lovely to have them here with us to enjoy life.
ReplyDeleteWe are very lucky that he is still here and able to participate in such parties. He said he didn't want a fuss and we told him that it was for us because we wanted celebrate him.
DeleteHappy birthday to your father-in-law! I love the fact that you have a family band.
ReplyDeleteWard's mother, who passed away many years ago would be happy to know that her love of music is being practiced by her family.
DeleteThat's a great birthday for Ward's dad. Wonderful for everyone.
ReplyDeleteHaving accomplished family musicians who can play together like that is really a fantastic, fun thing. I wish we could do that (minus for living so far away from everyone) not that I have an ounce of musical ability, but the daughters do. We plan to see the geo one next week while she's visiting Nevada (from NY). It's a long road trip, but we'll see the eastern Sierra's, a little of Lk Tahoe, Reno, a Bluegrass Festival in Grass Valley, CA, and visit an old SoCal friend in Chico, before driving back down south. I hope you all are well!
Sounds like a good trip. I look forward to your FB posts about it.
DeleteWe are all good here.
