I am thankful for my library.
Recently, a friend asked Ward and me to join their Mahjong group. Neither of us had ever played before, so we weren't sure if we wanted to. And then, voila, we discovered that our library was giving beginner Mahjong lessons yesterday.*
So for the free Mahjong lessons (not to mention all of books, movies, etc.), I am thankful.
Until next time...
*We found the game complicated, and Ward's not sure if he wants to play again, but I want to learn more.

I play mahjong on line but have agreed to join a local group, I'm actually looking forward to it
ReplyDeleteThe Mahjong I play online is nothing like what I played yesterday. Whatever version you end up with, I hope you like it.
DeleteI play it solo. Have no idea how it would be group played.
ReplyDeleteThe regular game is designed for four players and involves complicated patterns and strategies. Maybe I could win if I play by myself. :)
DeleteI have never played it, but pretty cool thr library is giving lessons.
ReplyDeleteNow, I need to find more beginner groups as we didn't even make it through one game yesterday. I don't think experienced players would enjoy playing with us yet. :)
DeleteThat's great that you and Ward are trying new things. I still have PTSD from trying to play Euchre during college. I wasn't any good at it, and people hated being my partner. (Euchre is popular in Michigan, although I think maybe not as popular as it was years ago).
ReplyDeleteI remember Euchre, but I think I only played it once or twice.
DeleteAs I understand it, Mahjong doesn't have partners, so I don't have to worry whether or not I would have a hard time finding a partner. : )
Oh how fun to be able to take lessons at your library. I didn't even know there were mahjong groups. Sadly, I think our library has lost some funding.
ReplyDeleteLibraries provide so many important services, but unfortunately they are often the first place cuts are made.
DeleteI want to learn to play. Our library has game nights but nothing for beginners
ReplyDeleteThe library is going to have an open game night that will include beginners, but that won't be until July. Experienced players don't always want to be bogged down with new players, so it's sometimes hard to find the right group to play with.
DeleteOne of the things I remember most about the time I spent in Hong Kong was hearing the sound of mahjong tiles being shuffled around as neighbors played the game. :)
ReplyDeleteI've heard that the Chinese version is more complicated that the American one. :)
