Mother's Day

   Happy Mother's Day!

I come from a long line of mothers.

My mother, Betty, and I. I was about three, and she was pregnant with my sister, her fourth child. I didn't have a care in the world, but she looks very tired. I think she was.

My mother with my grandmother, Donnie. My grandmother was very proud
since my mother was the first in her family to graduate from high school.

My paternal grandmother, Yula, with 17 grandkids. There were 6 more to come.
(I'm next to the boy with the bowtie.)

My great-grandmother, Anna Estella, on my paternal grandmother's side.
In other words, this is the mother of the person above.

This is my paternal great-grandmother, Lavenia Jane
In other words, this is my paternal grandfather's mother.

This is my great, great-grandmother, Anna Elizabeth,
mother of Anna Estella.

There. Do you have all of that straight? Don't worry. I'm not sure if I got it all correct myself. What I do know is that each generation along the way has made me who I am, and for that, I am thankful.

So, as you remember those who came before you, Happy Mother's Day!

Until next time...

  1. Happy Mother's day! Hope you have a special day!
You are such a cutie! Your mother does look so tired. So special to have pictures of all your great grandmothers. And wow on the 23 grandchildren. Those must have been fun reunions.

    1. Every summer we'd meet at my grandparents farm for a big picnic. It was wild with all of those kids running around, but we had a lot of fun climbing the hills, playing in the creek, making ice cream, etc.

    1. I try to remain anonymous here and don't use my name or a current picture for privacy reasons. I don't know if it makes any difference since so many electronic resources are secretly tracking us, but I'm trying.

  3. Wonderful series of accomplished mothers (and children!) So many children! I loved that you started with the tired pregnant mom...that's who all those mom's can certainly relate to.

    1. I can certainly relate to being a tired, pregnant mom.
It's interesting that among the 23 cousins, there were only 4 boys. Even with that, we girls, could hold our own with being wild.

    1. Yes, that's the plan after Theo gets off work. Not sure what's on the menu.

  5. There's a strong family resemblance between Anna and Anna Estella. I enjoyed the pictures. Have a great day with your family.

    1. I think the Anna's must have a strong set of genes because my grandmother looked like them, too.

  6. Today was a bittersweet day. I began the morning thinking of Mom and welled up. There are so many things I would like to say to her and to ask her.

    1. These days are hard when loved ones aren't here any more to share them with us. I hope you had some good memories among the sad ones.
