Here are a few pictures of what's been happening at my house lately.
Until a few days ago, our backyard looked like this. This was 3 weeks after our snow and ice storm. In this area, we're not used to snow sticking around for that long.
That may be why I made this impulse buy at Costco. The $10 doormat was speaking to me. It reminded me that spring is coming.
In the meantime, my Christmas/Thanksgiving/Easter* cactus started to bloom after a year of dormancy. That sated my need for flowers for the time being. *Distinctions without a difference in my book.
Last night, Ward went into the store for milk and came out with milk and roses. They were on sale since it was after Valentine's Day. That was a nice surprise.
Until next time...
That's a lovely doormat! So cheerful. Your Easter cactus is very pretty, too. I love the colors in the felted knitted purse. I bet you are happy to see the snow melting. :)
ReplyDeleteThe cheerfulness of the door mat is one of the reasons I liked it. I have another Christmas cactus, but I only get one or two blooms from it. This one is outdoing it.
DeleteLove how you were surrounded by flowers despite the gloomy winter day. The cactus is stunning!
ReplyDeleteAnd the blooms are just starting!
DeleteIt's the time of year where spring-themed items hold a lot of appeal. I have been eyeing up Easter decorations when I hit the stores. I don't need to buy any, but the colors make me happy. I love your new doormat! Our Christmas cactus never has that many blooms on it--yours is so pretty. Do you have a pattern for your knitted purse, or do you make it up as you go along?
ReplyDeleteI was surprised that it had so many blooms. It had blooms all over it when I got it as a gift, but those were probably forced under special conditions. I am enjoyed the color it's providing.
DeleteI have some knitting patterns that I used years ago, but I didn't remember how to do some of the techniques they involve. I am pretty much just winging it. Since I my expectations are not specific, I am enjoying the free-form process.
You poor thing, that is way too long for the snow/ice to stick around! I thought ours lasted too long, but yours was much worse.
ReplyDeleteI love your new doormat! It's so vibrant and pretty.
I find myself planning for spring and thinking about flowers a lot lately.
One of my goals today is to get some seeds started. Yes, I too am dreaming of spring and summer.
DeleteSomehow I missed this post! Our men think alike, don't they? Beautiful roses. And the doormat would have been shouting my name too.
ReplyDeleteI hope the coming weather misses you this time. You guys have had enough to deal with
I thought the same thing when I saw Larry had gotten you some on-sale roses. :)
DeletePer usual, we have wildly different predictions on how much snow we will get. However, we should not have the extended period of very low temps like last time, so things should clear up in a timely manner.
