When we last spoke, I was telling you all about the local fair. But before that, I mentioned that Ward was going to Poland for almost three weeks. Two weeks down and a few more days to go. It's been an incredible trip for him, but he's getting tired. (I haven't taken any photos since the fair, so I'll include random pictures from Ward's trip.)
He went hiking in the Tatra Mountains. |
I, on the other hand, miss him, but have been enjoying my time. Well, enjoying sounds like it's better when Ward's not around. That's not true at all, but when you don't have to coordinate with anyone else, time seems to expand.
Besides going wild and eating onions, raw and cooked to my heart's content (onions are not Ward's favorite), I have been getting around to some things that I've been thinking about for months (years?).
One of the first things I did was clean up my gardening area in the garage. It had become a dumping spot expanding beyond its shelves, and maneuvering around the cars was challenging at times. Well, it's all organized now, and I'm ready to plant those 60 crocus bulbs I bought at Costco on impulse. I love crocuses, but I'm not sure where I'm going to put them all. That's a problem for another day. :)
Poland's version of a city limits sign. |
Next up was the craft room, which is really a misnomer because I don't do many crafts, but I have supplies in there if the mood decides to strike. There are also plants, a sewing machine and fabrics, photos, office supplies, linens, and anything else we're not sure where to put. It has been purged and organized, at least at a first level. I would actually leave the door open now if we had company. It should remain in pretty good shape until we start using it for wrapping Christmas presents. Then somehow entropy takes over again.
I have started, but not completed, a project in the basement. Last fall, we had a leak in the basement, and it ruined the carpet. We had a new floor put in, but first we had to move everything from the finished part to the unfinished part. The major furniture has been moved back, but not any of the rest of the stuff, including many shelves of photo albums and loose photos. I thought I would organize them before I put them back. The task is overwhelming and has prevented me from starting.
So, I decided that I would just neaten them up and put them back on the shelves. I had photos organized well until Wally was about 10. Then it's all hit or miss. Photos are hard because there are so many memories that come with them. Nevertheless, I have made progress. The goal is to get the stuff moved that is in front of our holiday decorations before we need them.

He's been eating lots of pierogi. |
And I've been keeping up my exercise and gardening, and I got to meet a brand new nephew. Today, I made pesto, and yesterday I cooked and froze turnip greens. Wild times here! 😁
Until next time...
It's a testament to the strong bond you and your husband have that you can both independently enjoy 3 weeks apart - doing your own things and looking forward to when Ward returns. The pierogis do look good but I know seeing less stuff at home looks good too!
ReplyDeleteI never thought about it, but I appreciate your comment about the strong bond that Ward and I have. I hope that we would after all of these years together.
DeleteIf I had to chose, I would chose the cleaned up areas over pierogis. :)
I love this post, sharing his photos in Poland and what you are accomplishing at home. And I cracked up that you are going wild eating onions!
ReplyDeleteI feel pretty good about what I've accomplished recently. I like order, so when I can restore some, it always makes me happy. And it can save money as I found a couple of things I had forgotten I had and was going to buy.
DeleteYou've been very productive while Ward is on his visit to Poland. I'd have been tempted to have a little "staycation" for the duration, myself. Your garden will look lovely next spring with all those crocuses blooming. :)
ReplyDeleteI had a big trip in June to AK and have another couple coming up to WV, so I was happy to stay home and get organized. I wonder if I can get Ward to go through some of his stuff when he comes back?
DeleteI'm so glad I'm not the only one who buys lots of plants on impulse and then has to scramble to figure out where to put all of them! That seriously made my day. I hope we get to see more photos for when Ward comes back from Poland. I've always wanted to visit, but I'll have to live vicariously through him for now. Thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI try to resist buying plants I don't have room for and sometimes I'm successful. And sometimes I'm not. :)
DeleteI'll see if Ward wants to do some posting about his trip when he gets back.
Sounds like we need to put you on a 12 step program for your plant buying addiction. ;)
ReplyDeleteBoth you and Ward seem to be having very fulfilling days. You'll have a lot to tell each other when you are reunited!
But I got such a good price! Actually, last year I planted crocus bulbs that had multiplied from the ones I already had without much success. I'm hoping that starting with quality bulbs will yield better results. If I figure out where to put them. :)
DeleteI know what you mean about about time expanding when you're not coordinating with someone else. I love my husband, Robert dearly but I get a lot more done when he's not around. It's nice to have a balance of days when he's here and days I'm completely alone.
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited about your crocuses. That sounds like such a joy to look forward to.
I, too, have been organizing photos but I've been sorting through digital pictures rather than albums you can hold. I love albums and have a few. I love the new way of pictures where you have the instant gratification of immediately seeing a picture, but I miss the days where we waited until the end of life's big moments to get the film developed. Flipping through the pictures for the first time was like reliving the big moment all over again.
Digital photos is a whole other thing. I organized several years of those and have been meaning to get back to that project. I always think I'll do these kinds of things during the winter, but last winter came and went without any progress. :)
DeleteYou've been busy!
ReplyDeleteI understand what you mean about having time to yourself. Nick has a work conference every year and I enjoy using vacation days that week to work on random house projects he's not as interested in.
I'm interested to see how your crocus bulbs do. I've never planted any, but I'm thinking about trying some this year.
One of the first things I did when we moved to this house was plant crocuses since there weren't any here. I love the bright colors of them in spring. Those did okay, but I would like more.
