A Second Look--August 31, 2016

Here on this last day of August, I heard that it has been the hottest August on record with 23 days over 90 degrees. And today is supposed to stay with the trend, so maybe it will be 24 really hot days this month. Many of the plants and trees are drying up and looking pretty stressed because the heat has not come with a lot of rain. The trees in particular are dropping a lot of dried leaves prematurely. We had a very wet spring which cause a lot of growth that the trees can't support now that the weather is not so friendly. Nevertheless, there are few pockets of color here and there. Most of the pictures this week were taken during a morning walk just as the dew was starting to dry. If you look closely at some of the pictures, you will see it.

I'm not sure what this insect is but notice the proboscis is orange like the color around its head.

    How are you doing in the midst of all of the moving craziness?

    Your pictures are beautiful. Glad you could take a moment to enjoy the beauty around you.

      It's still crazy around here. I'm calmer than in the beginning, but it wouldn't be hard to do that.

    So pretty! Does the new place have an established garden?

      The new place has some nice fruit trees and a few foundation plantings. One of the ideas was to have a yard easier to take care of, so we should probably leave it at that. However, my mind is already all over the place about beds to put in.

    Will you be sad to leave all of your plants behind? You've enjoyed them in your second look posts for a few years, now.

      I will be very sad to leave this yard behind. I really have enjoyed it and I'm thankful for the Second Looks that helped me with that. However, I try to remember all of the tree trimming, sweet gum balls to rake, invasive weeds, etc. to convince myself that it's time to move on.
