A Second Look--August 12, 2015

Here's what I saw this week
during a Second Look.

Day lily

Cardinal on leaking birdbath. I have patched the birdbath a couple of times and I'm not sure what I'll do next. But I'd like for there to be water for the birds.

Coneflower

Japanese maple

Balloon flowers

Bag worm on juniper tree. I just found these today. Hopefully there aren't so many that I will be able to hand pick them off the tree for control. We'll see when I have a little more time to investigate.

  1. Hurray for me, another lily! The balloon flower is just beautiful, don't think I have ever seen one before.

    1. Most of the day lilies look pretty bad--no blooms and brown, wilted leaves. However, here and there is one blooming. We'll see how much longer I can keep starting the Second Looks with them. You've made me appreciate them even more.

    2. They are without a doubt my favorite flower but they don't last long enough. Of course, I am a fickle flower lover since I also love the Queen Anne's Lace that blooms all along the roadsides here , and the Black Eyed Susan's that do the same. Maybe I just like things that are hard for me to kill.

    3. Black Eyed Susan is the state flower for Maryland so you see a lot of those in people's yards around here. I have some, but they're not very vigorous because they don't have enough sun.

  2. I've never heard of bag worms. I put water out for the birds, but ground level. I'd like to make a bird bath for them. I hope you get the leaks fixed in yours. Your photos are so beautiful.

    1. Bag worms particularly like spruce and junipers and can destroy an entire tree. I spent the morning picking them off the tree, so I think it will be okay.
