Yesterday when I did a walk around the yard, the ground was frozen and my feet were crunching with every step. That was almost as fun as the crunching of dried leaves in the fall. Another reason to get outside on these cold days and do a Second Look. :)
Here are a few things I saw this week
|
The squirrels have been cleaning up under the bird feeder. |
|
But they also have been enjoying walnuts. |
|
Out of all of the woodpeckers that frequent our feeders, this is the first time I have noticed one with its beak open. |
|
We saw four bluebirds go in and out of this box one afternoon. If I didn't know better, I would have thought they were building a nest. |
|
And speaking of nests, look at the difference between these goldfinches. The brightly colored one is from last August during nesting season and the dull one is from this January during survival season. |
|
It was also the end of another season. It was finally warm enough last Sunday that we took down our Christmas lights. |
My neighbors have left up some of their lights. It's pretty to see.
ReplyDeleteLove your bluebirds! We don't get many here.
We don't usually see bluebirds until spring. However, a few can stay for the winter. I was happy to see them.
DeleteI actually love to watch the squirrels as much as I love to watch the birds.
ReplyDeleteThey are a lot of fun to watch as they scurry and scamper around. I just don't like it when they eat all of the expensive bird food. We have a good supple of walnuts and other things for them, but the bird seed always seems to be their favorite.
DeleteAre you sure we live in the same area? Cause your home looks so awesome! LOVE the pics, as usual. What kind of camera do you use?
ReplyDeleteIf I understand it right, you live south of the city and I live north. And you know the weather, there is a lot of variation. I don't have a fancy camera-a point and shoot Sony Cyber Shot, but thanks for the compliments.
DeleteI had no idea the goldfinches changed colors by season! Love the squirrel and the walnut shells.
ReplyDeleteI didn't either until I started to pay attention. Many birds are duller in the winter and also as they start to mature from nestlings to adults.
