I am thankful for time I spend with my family.
Yesterday was Wally's birthday, and we all gathered to celebrate at his place. Among other things, we enjoyed a hike at a local nature center.
Here are a few pictures from our walk.
There wasn't much green in the woods yet, so this skunk cabbage really stood out. |
These were the only wildflowers we saw. |
We found a geocache box even without our GPS. |
And we found some real tree huggers. :) |

In honor of Wally's birthday, today's poetry comes from Dr. Seuss's Happy Birthday to You! I've taken two different pages from the book and combined them below.
If we didn’t have birthdays, you wouldn’t be you.
If you’d never been born, well then what would you do?
If you’d never been born, well then what would you be?
You might be a fish! Or a toad in a tree!
You might be a doorknob! Or three baked potatoes!
You might be a bag full of hard green tomatoes.
Or worse than all that…Why, you might be a WASN’T!
A Wasn’t has no fun at all. No, he doesn’t.
A Wasn’t just isn’t. He just isn’t present.
But you…You ARE YOU! And, now isn’t that pleasant!
Today you are you! That is truer than true!
Today you are you! That is truer than true!
There is no one alive...who is you-er than you!
Shout loud, “I am lucky to be what I am!
Thank goodness I’m not just a clam or a ham.
Or a dusty old jar of sour gooseberry jam!
I am what I am!
That’s a great thing to be!
If I say so myself, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!”
Happy birthday, Wally! We like to hike at our local state parks. It's getting close to the time when the trillium bloom there--so pretty.
ReplyDeleteI love trilliums. We used to have a couple in our yard, but they have disappeared. :(
DeleteI was talking about geocaching with a dad and his son who did it on a Boy Scouts camping trip. Sounds fun.
ReplyDeleteI have thought about doing it in the past, but have never gotten around to it. Geocaching was very popular a few years ago, but I don't hear much about it anymore. I wonder if it's not an "in" thing these days?
DeleteHappy belated birthday to your son! The years fly by, don't they?!
ReplyDeleteSkunk cabbage is the first thing we see in the woods behind our house.
My kids have reached the ages that I don't believe that I'm old enough to have kids that age. :)
