I am thankful I got to spend a few days with my mother.
We had fun watching my sister give my mother a manicure. |
It often seems that visits with my mother are filled with challenging issues that come with aging parents. However, this week I got to spend a few days with her playing games, eating good food, and talking. For that I am thankful.
I'm glad you had a good time with your Mom.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I hope your mom is doing better these days.
DeleteI am so, so glad that you got to spend time with your mom.
ReplyDeleteIt was a successful visit. She is just getting enough strength back after her health problems that she can make the trip here. And for a few years before that, she didn't travel because my father was ill. So this was the first visit in several years. I think she really enjoyed it. It was a good visit for all of us.
DeleteI, too, have aging parents and all the health dilemmas which come with that. So often it seems like visits with them involve caretaking or getting business items done, and it's nice sometimes just to enjoy them. Glad you got to experience that with your mom.
ReplyDeleteI just peeked at your completed kitchen and it's gorgeous! What a relief for you (sorry about the fridge--boo!).
You had turducken? My husband will be jealous. :)
Aging parents is a very difficult thing. I am very lucky that I have three sisters to share the responsibilities with. However, the closest one of us lives 6 hours away and my mother lives in a very small town without many services available, which makes many of the issues difficult to manage. I wish you luck as your parents continue to age. It's not easy, but it's a part of life.
DeleteThe kitchen is just about restocked, however, I'm not sure where everything is. The kitchen turned out better than I imagined. That may be because I don't have much imagination where these things are concerned. Tomorrow the floor guy is supposed to come to refinish the living room to match the other rooms, so we have furniture and stuff crammed into various places again. However, the end is in sight. Have you gotten back to work on your project?
I'm chuckling at your not being able to find stuff--our cabinets were reconfigured in part of our kitchen so I'm running into the same problem--the "where DID I put that???" scenario. Yesterday I just couldn't face dealing with the kitchen again but today I hope to finish putting things away and I want to buy paint so we can get to work on that. The end is near!
ReplyDeleteI have one sister who lives about 40 minutes away from my parents and the rest of us are 2 1/2 to 4 hours away. The sister who lives closest hasn't always been, um, the most helpful but she seems to be stepping up to the plate more. I had my children at an older age so I have elderly parents and kids in elementary school and I often feel pulled in many directions. But ... my parents are still with us and living independently so I have a lot to be thankful for.
