Those pictures are just wonderful! Are they all from your family? Dying to know the story behind the inclusion of the chimpanzee, some sort of nod to Darwin? :-)
These people are all direct ancestors of mine--grandparents, great grandparents, etc. The orangutan is a nod to Darwin. Last night when I was having a lot of problems scanning the pictures, it seemed like a good idea to include it because it provided some levity to the situation at the time. Today I thought differently and took it out. Still undecided though. It may reappear again today.
Ha! Well, I suppose if you want to get technical about it then the orangutan (chimpanzee, orangutan... what do I know?) would be inaccurate since they are more like cousins descended from a common ancestor than an ancestor themselves. You could include a photo of the fossil of Lucy, but somehow it doesn't quite seem to go with the theme of the collage! :-)
My nephew is a primate keeper at a major zoo, and although they may be our cousins, his stories suggest that orangutans act an awful lot like us.
The cowboy picture is my grandfather. No one is sure why he was dressed that way. While he dealt with cattle his whole life, it was on a farm in the east instead of a big ranch in the west where cowboys mostly were. Maybe it was inspired by an early western movie. We didn't find the picture until long after he was gone, so we didn't get a chance to ask him about it.
Nice photos, do any of them look like you? We have a photo of my dad's family when they were young (probably only in the 50s), but you can tell which one of his brothers is which because they all look like my cousins did at similar ages.
I don't think that I particularly look like anyone in the photos and have never been told that I do. However, one of my cousins looks remarkably like my grandmother did at her various ages.
