Good morning.
Our 1st head of broccoli is forming. |
But it's almost time for work, and I will be doing storytime this morning with preschoolers. May is National Mental Health Month, so I'm doing a storytime on feelings. This is my version of tying into that because, of course, three-year-olds are not ready for a big discussion about mental health. Storytimes are always fun, so that, combined with time to wake up, should have me feeling okay soon enough.
After a long time of talking about it, we finally got a new mattress. We found mattress shopping intimidating because so many variables and unique branding made comparisons difficult. Thus, we would start researching and shopping, become overwhelmed, and move on to something else. Memorial Day is traditionally the biggest mattress sale of the year, so we took advantage of that and bit the bullet. Last night was our first night on the new mattress. It will still take time to get used to, but I think we made a good decision. We also got an adjustable base because of the variety of setups it lets us have. I'm not sure how much we will be using it at this point, but we shall see.
Times up for now, so I will finish this later.

Well, it is a day and a half later now. The rest of yesterday was busy and intense with a visit from a friend I hadn't seen in a long time and, later, more disturbing news from another. Both made for a busy mind and too much awake time last night. Good thing that today is a day off with nothing really pressing to do. Begonias that didn't get planted.
Ward and I spent our wake-up time this morning playing with the different settings on the bed frame. It has way more settings than we will probably ever use, but they were fun to play with all the same. There are under-the-bed night lights. I'm not sure what we need those for, but we can change them to four different colors. The head, foot, and middle all raise and lower to several heights. Raising the head of the bed is what I thought might be the most useful, but we haven't figured out the right setting for that yet. We got the giggles as we tried out the different vibration settings. They might be good to go to sleep by, but for now, they just seem strange and funny. And even with all of these features, believe it or not, we did not get the deluxe version of the bed frame. Ours has no charging ports, and we can't operate it from our phones. Neither is a problem since we don't take any devices to the bedroom.
We have had several straight days of rain, so my hopes of doing some needed yard work were not met today. Instead, we made progress with some of our financial papers, which always seem to need some kind of attention.
That's about it for now. What kind of this and that have you been up to?
Until next time...
Under bed lights? Vibration settings? I hope the power doesn't go out so you can have fun with that bed and frame.
ReplyDeleteWe got the bed fancy bed frame for two reasons. One is the legs adjust into 6 different heights. Two is to be able to raise the head a little if we have a cold or if snoring is a problem. I don't know why you need the rest of that stuff, but maybe we'll grow to like it. Or it will be our entertainment from time to time. :)
DeleteI do hope your father-in-law is recovering well.
ReplyDeleteAnd I hope that your migraine went away and story time went well.
How nice to see the first broccoli head forming. I didn't plant any broccoli this year. I'm planting corn, okra, green beans, and that one tomato plant.
The new bed sounds like fun! I am thinking of getting a new mattress, myself - mine is 30+ years old and I've placed some quilts over the mattress cover to provide a little cushioning, but, it might be time for a new mattress.
My FIL is doing better, but needs surgery. Now it is wading through several doctor's appointments preparing for it. My migraine got better, but returned this morning. However, I am lucky that meds usually help it after an couple of hours. And storytime went well and was a lot of fun.
DeleteWe had put a memory foam topper on our old mattress to give it some more years of use. I'm not sure if it was 30 years old, but it was getting up there. Good luck shopping when you decide it's time for a new mattress. We did research and went in thinking we wanted one kind, but chose another kind when we actually tried them out.
Oh wow! That bed sounds quite fancy and hi-tech! 😁 I never knew such things existed on a bed. I’m sure it will be great once you get used to it and figure out all of the settings. I hope your father-in-law is doing better. I also hope the migraines have gone.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea that all of those things were available these days on a bed, either. My father-in-law is better for now, but needs surgery to address his main problem. The migraine is back this morning, but I have taken medicine. In a few hours it should be better.
DeleteHooray for finding a new bed! We have an adjustable bed frame in which the head raises and lowers, but it's not working right now--I'm wondering if the motor burned out on it. My husband dislikes having his head raised in bed, so I guess it's no big deal. I wonder if the lights under your bed are for nighttime safety. It's fairly common for people to have mobility and balance issues when they get up in the middle of the night, due to lots of factors, and a little bit of light is helpful for balance. There, more conjecturing on that feature than you anticipated. ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about your FIL as well as your migraines. I also wake up frequently with migraines, and it's no fun.
I think the under the bed light is acting as a night light. However, it's not very effective as that. I just think they add things because it's easy and can charge more. I think a more traditional nightlight is better. I want to sleep in total darkness, but Ward likes a little light. The compromise is that we leave on the light on the air purifier that we run at night. We do have a nightlight in the bathroom.
DeleteI have a feeling if the motor burns out on this, we won't get it fixed.
