Day 7, Home again

Note: Ward, Wally, Theo, and I took a week-long trip to the Blue Ridge of central Virginia.

We packed up and got on the road fairly early, but not before I fed the horse more carrots. I felt like I was leaving a friend as he neighed with a little head toss to greet me. (I know, he just liked the carrots, but I can pretend we bonded :))

We drove along the same part of the Blue Ridge Parkway as Ward and I had the previous day so Wally and Theo could have the experience before we left the area. It was hazier than the day before but still had good views. And we were surprised when we saw how much the leaves had changed in just one day. They will be at their peak soon.

We had an uneventful trip home and arrived to a fussy cat, who, in her own way, was telling us she missed us.

If you've read any of my posts about this trip, you know we had a good time. The trip was the culmination of good planning, good cooperation, good weather, and good scenery.

However, that doesn't mean everything was perfect. At times, we had heavy traffic, wrong turns, slips and bruises, noisy cattle, headaches, colds, and disagreements. But the good was so good that those things didn't really register much.

Or perhaps the vacation seemed so good because it did just what a vacation should do - it gave my mind a reset. However, I'm back in the real world now and all the chores and issues that come with it. Speaking of which, it's time to check on the laundry.

Until next time...

  1. It's hard to come down from that relaxed vacation mindset. But you came home to your kitty cat who missed you!

Thanks for keeping it real by telling us that you experienced the inevitable hiccups on your trip. Sounds like the good far outweighed the bad.

    1. I'll say it again, it was a great trip even with all of the hiccups. I've spent a lot of years trying to see the glass as half full, and I think I accomplished that on this trip. :)

I've been working all day on putting things away and catching up on things around the house. Next up is the paperwork and bills that need attention. Tomorrow, it's back to work, so I should keep plodding along today.

  2. Hi Live and Learn,
From reading your posts, it sounds like your family had an overall great time away. I find getting away to be so good for my mind. Good luck getting back into the groove of everyday activities.

    1. We did have a very good time, but it's back to the busyness of the every day. I think one reason getting away is good is you are away from the chores of home, and even if you wanted to, you can't work on them.

  3. Welcome back! So glad you had a safe drive home and of course Annie had missed you! Family vacations usually do have some ups and downs, don't they? But, it sounds like you have had a good vacation for the most part. And you've hit the ground running, as they say, with getting caught up on laundry and the paperwork that accumulated while you were gone. Hope the return to work, tomorrow, goes well.

    1. I think all vacations have their ups and downs, just like every day life. :)
We had a great time, but it's good to be home.

  4. "the good was so good that those things didn't really register much" That is the key sentence of a truly grand vacation.
And of course your cat missed you (well as much as it is cat possible)

    1. Cats are not so much, "I missed you," as "You went away and now you're gonna hear about it!" :)
