Our Fine Feathered Friends

We have had a birdfeeder outside our kitchen window for about six months now. It took a couple of months for a few birds to find it. And a couple of more months for the variety of birds to increase beyond the ever-present house finches. And recently, we finally got close enough to take a few pictures. Watching this feeder and other birds around is one of the best parts about spending extra time at home.

Bird's that slid down the drain spout. It took a while to get the bird and the nest out. The top now has a screen on it to prevent this happening again. We hope.

That bird, which I think is a finch, may have then moved to a nearby bluebird box. When I went to remove the extra nest to give the bluebirds a chance, there were already babies in it. Use your imagination when you look at the fuzzy red and yellow colors in the middle of the picture. Those are newly hatched birds, however, I was not able to see them well and neither was the camera.

And what feeder would be complete without our large furry friend.

Until next time... when hopefully a few more fine feathered friends have stayed still enough for us to get a picture.

  1. I love the little finches. We have a nest pair right outside the porch. I love watching them

    1. Finches are cute and we've had a few goldfinches recently. I like to watch how they flutter up and down when they fly.

  2. We have our yearly nestlings of house finches on our front wreath. My niece brought her little girl over to look at them the other day. We always enjoy watching the whole process, and frequently they use the nest 2 or 3 times a season. This year, we don't seem to have a bunny family but we do have 4 baby black squirrels. It's been fun to watch them. It's my main source of entertainment these days!

    1. And what great entertainment it is. We have so many finches around that there must be nests, but I don't know where they are. I may have to go on a hunt. That was a great outing for your niece and daughter. Did you wave through the windows? Is that the one that you prepare things for each week?

    2. Yes, that's the one. It was awkward for them as the finches built the nest on the very topmost part of the wreath. We can see it when standing from a chair indoors, but the step is lower. With social distancing, we are trying to avoid being in each other's homes. Fortunately my niece is tall and we found a step stool that they could stand on.

  3. You have a good variety of birds visiting your feeders! Not to mention the squirrel! Lovely photos! I could just make out those little baby birds in their nest!

    1. While they are still hard to see, they are certainly loud. No way their parent will forget about them. :)

  4. Wow that is incredible about the nest and birds sliding down the drain spout. Of course, a squirrel has discovered the bird feeder!

    1. My next door neighbor feeds the squirrels specifically and amply. I don't know why they don't stay over there. :)
