This is where we last left you. Roof trusses were being covered with sheathing, floor joists were in, and the piers were starting to get bricks around them. |
Since then, the roof was shingled and an arch was built for the front of it. We are pleased with how well the new roof ties into the existing roof. |
This notch at the top of the beam next to the arch will hold a beam tail, part of the trimming. |
And perhaps the most important thing that happened recently is that we passed the framing inspection, so work can continue. |
The mason finished bricking the piers and poured the landing for the steps yesterday. |
They have added the posts for the railing and begun wrapping all of the exposed wood in Boral board, a composite cement product that should wear very well. |
And that's all she wrote. Until next time...
Wow, that's impressive! Bet you are looking forward to nice weather so you can enjoy your porch.
ReplyDeleteWe had nice weather yesterday in the 50's and so wished we had a floor so we could have gone onto the porch. Soon enough.
DeleteIt is so exciting to see the porch taking shape! I bet you are excited, too, and ready for it to be completed so you can start enjoying it. It is such a nice addition to the house. :)
ReplyDeleteWhen they finish it it will probably be too cold to use it much. However, spring is going to have a lot of time spent out there.
DeleteWe tried to plan the porch so that is tied well into the house in style, size, and proportions. And when I say we planned, I mean the architect took a few of our words and made it happen.
Wow, that is super well built!
ReplyDeleteWe joke and say it looks like my father was building it. He built everything to last forever with a really good foundation and framing.
DeleteThe code has gotten really strict for decks and porches because several of them have fallen when they were full of people. The architect and builder are making sure that this is well built and we've had no problem getting anything approved. And they both take pride in their work and know that is really their calling card. We are very happy with the quality of what has been done so far.
That is so nice. I'm so excited for you! Can't wait to see the final touch :)
ReplyDeleteI hope it lives up to its expectations which I think it will.
DeleteJune, glad that everything is going well for you and Ward. That porch looks great. All the best in 2020!
ReplyDeleteThanks. Looks like after some bumps in the road, you and your family are doing well. Happy New Year!
