Food Waste Friday and True Food Confessions-Oct. 31, 2014

It's time for Food Waste Friday, when the Frugalgirl and Jo at Simply being Mum encourages us to post pictures from the previous week of wasted food from our household. This accountability hopefully will help us to be more careful with our food and maybe save some money. Also, I am using this public forum to encourage us to eat out less which includes better meal planning. You can follow how we are doing in this endeavor by reading True Food Confessions. Occasionally, if our eating is going okay, I'll talk about some other food topic.

and Happy Halloween

Picture of Self Carving Pumpkin
This is my token Halloween part of this post. It actually has little or anything to do with the main food topic. However, I was very intrigued by the way this pumpkin was carved. It was carved by putting peanut butter on the pumpkin and having squirrels do the carving while they were eating.                                 http://www.instructables.com/id/Self-Carving-Pumpkin/

Status Update
It's been 1 1/2 months since I did one of these posts and it's time to get back on the wagon. Since the last post, things have been busy and sometimes stressful. And when that happens, one of the first things to go are meal planning and cooking. I know that it's not that way for everyone as some of you find cooking relaxing or it's so second nature that you don't often consider alternatives. But that's not the way it works around here. More and more eating out has been happening along with more and more consoling sweets. (The consoling sweets may stay around for a few more days with leftover Halloween candy.)

And how about our food waste? That's still doing pretty well, but should do even better once we start eating at home more. I do a pretty good job of working in whatever we have into the meals when I'm actually cooking them.

We'll see how it goes next week. I need to remember that slow and steady wins the race.

Until next time...

  1. Okay, that pumpkin is too funny!

I hope the stress lightens up for you very soon. :-)

    1. Wally showed me this idea for the pumpkin and I thought it was great.

I think we all know how stress works. Some days there's a lot and some days there's not. What I'm trying to do is not get too stressed out by trivial things like I find myself doing sometimes. There are enough big issues that I can't control that I can't afford to waste my energy on minor irritants.

  2. I love the pumpkin idea!

Even people like me who love to cook have to go with the flow on things. You've been stretched thin and all you can do is do the best you can. Hopefully life will settle down soon.

    1. Shara, thanks for the encouragement. I know that you have your own things to worry about. Is that why you get so many things done. Lots of nervous energy to use up?

  3. Sometimes ya just gotta get through the day. It's hard to have home-cooked meals when you are pulled in different directions. Give yourself the gift of grace. :)

LOVE the pumpkin. I've never heard of doing that before. Funny!

    1. I'm starting to feel the effects of eating poorly. All I want to eat (besides Halloween candy) are vegetables. I think my body is telling me something. However, Ward's body never speaks to him that way. I not sure if that's a female/male thing or just a June/Ward thing.

    2. I'm feeling the effects of too many Halloween treats--fruit, veggies, and milk are what I crave when my eating has been out-of-whack. My hubby doesn't like the feeling of eating too much junk, either--so maybe it's a Ward thing??

    3. So maybe it's a Ward thing. He has passed it on to at least one of his children.
