A Second Look

This is the first week in several that it has not been raining during my Second Look .  I found this a nice change of pace. Blooms are continuing with something new blooming every day. Also, we found a not-so-pretty cicada still in its shell while we were planting some new bushes. The cicada invasion has begun in some places, but we don't expect them until later in the month. I can wait.

Here is what I found this week during a Second Look.

Rhododendron

Star of Bethlehem

Azalea

Baby peaches

Azalea

Siberian Iris

Lily of the valley

Bleeding heart and azalea

Cicada cocoon

  1. I didn't know you had peach trees! Do you get many peaches?
I'm not sure I've ever seen a cicada. The cocoon might freak me out if I came across it.

    1. We had two peach trees. One has been over taken by bigger trees. The other one has not produced many usable peaches. The squirrels seem to take a bite out of each one as the are ripening causing them to rot. We get a few peaches we can use then and again, but the critters get more.

    2. That sounds like our cherry trees. We have two cherry trees, but only get a couple of handfuls of cherries each year, thanks to our charitable feeding program we run for the blackbirds and squirrels.

  2. Looks as good as the Brighton Dam Azalea Gardens at your place :-)

    1. We do have some nice azaleas. We just don't have five acres of them.

  3. This is my favorite time of year and you captured exactly what makes it special. Cicadas aren't prevalent where I live but head 100 miles south and they can be quite the problem. The first time we were in the area when they were out it was futile trying to dodge them. So glad I don't have them, hope yours aren't too bad.

    1. They are predicting a big invasion with deafening sounds. We'll see. I hope they are wrong.

  4. Oooooo... I'm so jealous! Our spring flowers really took a beating this year with all our late season snow. The lilacs and iris haven't even made an attempt yet. But the apple trees are finally starting to blossom - although we seem to have gone straight from winter to summer, this week it's been in the 80's every day, and they're saying we'll be pushing 90 before week's end. Oy!

Thanks for the cicada cocoon picture... I always wondered what they looked like!

    1. I imagine you'll be seeing hatched cicada pictures soon. :(
When I looked out the window this morning, I saw our first bearded iris in bloom. Even though we had a very cold spring (not as cold as yours though), now that it's warmed up, everything seems to be on schedule.
