A Good Start

 Good morning, everyone.

This is my third day of retirement, and everyone asks me how it feels. I tell them it's great because that's what they want to hear. Truth is, it's too soon to know how it feels because it hasn't really sunk in yet. Major changes require time to adjust. At least, that is how it works for me.

My retirement gift to myself. A Frog and Toad t-shirt
from my favorite Frog and Toad story.
But it really has been a good three days of retirement. It's 10:30 am, and I just realized that all I've really accomplished this morning involves food. One of my goals is to visit with friends more often, so this morning, I sent an email asking if we should reschedule tomorrow's lunch because of an impending ice storm. Next, I confirmed a breakfast with a friend for next week. Tonight, we're going to a bar for line dancing, and I studied the menu to see what I might want to get from there. Then Theo, who we haven't seen in a few weeks, called, so we're going to lunch with him today. Which meant, of course, that I had to study the menu at that restaurant. I also sent another email about a lunch I'm having here in a couple of weeks for some work friends.

I didn't expect you to follow the above paragraph, but I think you got the idea that food and friends are on my mind. That's a lot of eating out, but that's what I'm splurging on for now.

In addition, I've been to a line dancing class, a strength and balance class, and a ballroom dance class. Throw in a new book and a high score on Cookie Jam, and I am living the life!

Until next time...

  1. I absolutely love your Frog and Toad shirt! And yes, it does require some big adjustments as time goes on. I didn't technically retire when I left my job, but it was a mixed bag of emotions having to leave a job I did for 17 years. But eventually I have found my footing. It sounds like you have some super fun things planned, and that's great! Food and friends is always a favorite for me, too! Haha! I hope y'all enjoy your dancing and visiting with Theo, and that the ice storm isn't too bad!

    1. As a school librarian, you probably know Frog and Toad well. There were other shirts, but this is my favorite. I'm still not very good at any of the dancing I attempt, but it's fun all the same.

  2. Yes, it does take some time to adjust to being retired. But, it sounds like you've hit the ground running with plans to meet up with friends and family and enjoying some good food. I used to enjoy reading Frog and Toad to my daughter when she was little. :)

    1. I think the hardest part will be providing structure for myself that the job used to provide.

    1. If I'm half as busy as you are in retirement, I'm going to be tired!

  4. I love Frog and Toad!!! Awesome shirt!

It seems soon to ask you if you are adjusting to retirement. Sounds like you are off to a roaring start. I imagine that so far, it feels more like a vacation break. You'll have to update us in a month or two. In the meantime, enjoy having time to meet up with friends and family.

    1. Frog and Toad books use only simple words and stories, but are so relatable for all ages. I think describing this week as a vacation break is very true-- the vacation break during which I am not catching up on long time chores. :)
