Nature

We have had a string of lovely weather days recently with temperatures in the 60's along with no rain.  Ward and I were able to take advantage of one of those days by taking off early and going for hike at a state park not too far away. You may remember we did the same thing a couple of weeks ago. This time we were on another part of the same mountain we visited before but in a different park. There were a few people around but we didn't see anyone on the trail we chose. That may be because much of it was steep and rocky. That meant when we found an old logging road, we were very happy.

Once again, it was a refreshing outing. Nature has a way of doing that. Below are a few pictures from our afternoon along with some quotes about nature.

All my life through, the new sights of Nature made me rejoice like a child. —Marie Curie

Looking at beauty in the world, is the first step of purifying the mind. —Amit Ray

I go to nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order. —John Burroughs

Leave the road, take the trails. —Pythagoras

  1. Thank you for such a peaceful post. I was able to sneak in a hike a few days ago (we are also having a string of nice weather) and am mentally trying to bottle up days like that as "armor" for days when life doesn't seem so good.

But today is lovely! We are having a sunny day, 62 degrees out, and 4 giggling teen girls are in my back yard enjoying my daughter's birthday party. It makes me smile just to peek out my window and see them. I'm very thankful for good weather today--such a gift!

    1. I too am trying to sneak in time outdoors when I can. I think it is going to be a long winter. After the restrictions for COVID first started, the weather just kept getting better and better providing a way to get out when many things were closed. With some openings being pulled back, it's going to take some creativity to make the best of a shutdown in bad weather.

How wonderful that there is good weather for your daughter's birthday party and you don't have to use any of your contingency plans. Happy Birthday to her. :)

  2. Thank you for sharing your nature pictures and for the quotes. Thank you, too, to both of you, for your perspective on the weather. Our high, today, is supposed to be 61F (it is currently 59). Considering it was in the mid-90s, on Tuesday and Wednesday, 60F seems cold to me! We even had some rain, this morning, but the afternoon is sunny.

    Happy birthday to Kris's daughter.

    1. Our bodies adjust to the weather they are exposed to. Your body is adjusted to high temperatures so I'm not surprised that 60 seemed cold to you. The worst weather for me is cold and rainy. But I'm still happy to have changes in the weather even if I don't like some of them.

    2. Thank you, Bless! :)

I don't do well in hot, humid weather. 60s and 70s are the most comfortable temperatures for me. I don't mind colder weather but, like L&L, cold and wet is bone-chilling. I'd rather have snow. I do enjoy the variety in seasons and when we have traveled out west it's interesting to see how the temperature and climate affect how I feel. Hope you have some enjoyable fall weather!

    3. When I lived in New Orleans, winter was a lot of cold and rainy weather with warmer days thrown in here and there. There was enough variability that you never adjusted to the colder weather.
