Dark Clouds, but No Rain

You may ask, where have I been and what have I been up to. You may ask, but most likely not. In your busy lives, I probably don't make it to the top of your list of things to think about. But that's okay. Because in my busy life, I don't always think about blogs either. However, I do try to keep up with all of you out there best I can even if I don't comment.

But just in case you have asked, where have I been and what have I been up to in the last couple of weeks, I'll try to give you some highlights.

After several tests, I decided to go with a one time treatment for my trigeminal neuralgia. It may take several months before I will know if it helps, but in the meantime, I think it's in the stage of it might get worse before it gets better. But having made the decision to go ahead with this treatment is definitely better than the indecision I had before.

We had some dark clouds while camping,
but luckily it didn't rain.
Also, last weekend I went with Ward's family to a big festival that is really hard to describe succinctly, so I'll just say that we were camping with 2000 people who were all having a good time--especially Ward's father who has been going for over 60 years without missing one. He spent a lot of time talking to friends old and new. His family, also, played a lot of music--both as a family and with pickup bands. Bluegrass is their favorite, but they are open to other things, also.

And to make sure that this blog continues to be about not anything significant, here are a few pictures of a recent outing we went on. I have mentioned before, that we keep a folder with info of local places we want to visit. Then when we have a day that we're tired of the grind and want to get out of the house, we look in our folder. This time we visited a nature center that we had passed by before. We had a good hike and saw some interesting exhibits.

Around the nature center building, they had natural, pollinator gardens. Among the plants were these Queen Anne's Lace. Notice the black spot in the middle.

On the other side of the walk, there was a group of Queen Anne's lace
without the black spot in the middle.

A few years ago was the first time I noticed a Queen Anne's lace with a black spot in the middle. My friend said that was the only kind she had ever seen. That started me on path to learn more about the difference that I shared here on my blog.

This was our second stop that day. However, we got there too late to spend much time
so it went back into our folder for another outing.

Until next time, have fun.

  1. I had wondered and hoped that things were OK, that you were not posting because you were busy (you had mentioned you were going ahead with the patio building, earlier).

I hope the treatment works out well for you and helps with your level of pain.

Wow, that camping trip sounds like quite an event!

I've never realized that Queen Anne's Lace came with or without a spot! How interesting! I like your folder of interesting places to visit! Thanks for the idea!

    1. The camping trip was quite an event with a long history. My husband has lots of stories from when he went as a kid. My blog is not the place to go into the whole event, but let's just say that there is a lot to see.

As far as the patio goes, we're getting bids right now. Then we have to choose a contractor. I hope the architect helps us because I don't really know how to evaluate the bids which so far are all over the place.

Thanks for being concerned. Sometimes things are going well and sometimes they're not, but I always end up back here at some time or another. Since I don't use this as a journal as you do, I am absent longer than you ever are.

  2. I figured you'd be back to posting when you had time to do it. Life gets busy and there's nothing wrong with taking a break! That said, I'm glad you're doing well. Thanks for keeping us posted on your TN treatment and I hope you get relief soon.

Our Queen Anne's Lace around here almost always has the purple spot in the center, but I noticed when we were in Colorado this summer that theirs doesn't have it.

    1. One study I read said that QAL gets its spot in the second year of its biennial life cycle. I watched some that were growing at my old yard and didn't find that to be true there.

Things have been busy, but a much better kind of busy than they were a year ago. Thanks for the encouragement to keep posting.

  3. I have missed seeing your posts, but I understand life getting bigger than blogging. Welcome back.
I love Queen Anne's Lace. I am trying to get it to grow at the lake place. No luck so far though.

    1. Thanks, Anne. I don't have any QAL here and I might try growing some next year. I have a meadow garden I'm trying to grow and it would be a perfect addition. I'll sow some seeds along with all of the other's and see what happens. This year, I sowed a bunch of marigold seeds along with other things and only got one plant. And from my experience, marigolds are one of the easiest things to grow. Who knows what nature is thinking?

  6. I don't recall the former post about the black spot or not in Queen Anne's Lace. Sounds like a good time with your husband's family. I like bluegrass music.

    1. I like blue grass music, too. It's part of my cultural heritage. However, I just found out the other day that my son does not like blue grass music much. However, he's been doing a good job of hiding it at all of the family gatherings.
