I am thankful for buttercups.
Every year Aunt Martha selectively mows her yard to let a field of buttercups grow into a striking mass of yellow. Over the years, this became a great place to photograph her dog, Bear because he was totally black and didn't always show up well in photos.
Sadly, he passed away last year, but they have a new dog, Red. Red is a rescued redtick coonhound and has a varied, auburn coat which does not present the same picture challenges as Bear's did. However, I thought the tradition of buttercup dog photos should go on, so I took a picture of Red in them. And he looked just as good as Bear did. Enough so, that my sisters and I are thinking about having our pictures taken with the buttercups, since we also have auburn hair. :)
So for buttercups, old traditions and new dogs, I am thankful.
It's so nice to see a lawn that bears flowers! All lawn around here are bombarded by chemicals in order to create a perfect carpet of green. Boring!
ReplyDeleteIf I thought I could keep the poison ivy and other invasives out, I'd love to have a wildflower section in my yard. When I get a little more time, I'll do some research on that.
DeleteAww. Red is adorable. The buttercups are pretty, too, but I admit I am most drawn to the dog. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's great when you find a good idea for a background for pictures. I accidentally discovered that a pile of leaves is a great photo opportunity for kids. When mine were little, I took pictures of them because they had so much fun playing in them--then when I looked at the pictures later, it looked *almost* professional with the leaves as a backdrop. A happy accident.
Red is turning out to be a great dog. He was raised as a hunting dog but turned into the shelter because he was not a good hunter. I think the same things that made him not a great hunter have made him a good pet. Before they got him, he had never been in a house and he was especially afraid of the TV. He is adjusting and they are really enjoying him.
DeleteBTW, the purpose of the picture was the dog, so I'm glad your eyes are drawn to him. Sometime, you'll have to send a picture with the leaves as the background.
Why do you build me up... buttercup baby just to let me down - OK now MY internal radio is going!
ReplyDeleteRed looks like a total sweetheart, and it sounds like a lovely tradition.
Okay, now that song is playing in my head. Good thing I like it. I think we may have discussed this before, but does almost everything start a song in your head? That happens to me.
DeleteSometimes I think my life is one long exercise in musical free association!
DeleteMe, too, and I've never studied music. Just learned a lot of songs when I was a kid--mostly from my oldest sister.
DeleteThat field of buttercups is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThe buttercups are another sight I look forward to in the spring.
DeleteThe buttercups and the dog are both beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting, e. The dog's personality makes him even more beautiful.
DeleteLovely picture of Red among the buttercups! Ok, now you and EcoCatLady's comments have me singing that song! I'm singing rounds by myself with White Coral Bells, Poison Ivy, and Build me up, Buttercup! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI went on line and found a children's chorus singing White Coral Bells in a round and sang along. You might try it. I found it fun.
DeleteI love the field of buttercups! It reminds me of the field of dandelions across from my dad's chalet in the Alps! You totally should have your family portrait taken in it, it would be lovely.
ReplyDeleteChalet in the Alps sounds gorgeous all by itself. Add a field of yellow flowers and it must be beautiful.
DeleteLove the picture of Red in the buttercups! It would be a great backdrop for a photo of the sisters!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to see if I can convince any sisters of the idea. Also, we'll see if the buttercups can hold out until this cold and rainy weather passes.
