I am thankful for my father-in-law and family fun.
Yesterday my father-in-law, Leo, had his annual pig roast. About 60 people enjoyed a good time in spite of the rain that continued until the afternoon. His kids all came together to make it happen and it's turned into a special family event each fall. For family and fun, I am thankful.
BTW, Leo is a very clever man who loves tinkering. I will have to post more about him later, but in the above picture is a small example of his work.
This was the fire station (manned by Theo) to keep hot coals for the pig roasting (done by Ward).
Many things you see in this picture were made by Leo using parts from old hot water heaters, dryers, cement molds from trash can lids, cinder blocks, etc. Of special note is the bottle chandelier hanging from the tree in the very top of the picture. You just see a hint of it here. This is made from old bottles, LED lights from "throw-away" things from the Dollar store, plastic tops from coffee cans, and an old flashlight as the power source. I'll have to get a better picture sometime.
I'm glad you had a good time, and really glad you didn't post a picture of the pig. Even though I started eating meat again, somehow seeing a whole animal being cooked, face and all, is just too much for me to handle!
ReplyDeleteI am the exception in the family and really don't like looking at the pig either. While I do see it, I try to make my duties far away from the cooking area. In fact, I usually don't eat any. While others rave about how good the meat tastes, I enjoy the variety of salads others bring as sides. There are always fancier salads than I make for myself and that's what I fill up on. The carnivores (which is most of Ward's family) don't understand it.
DeleteGlad you had a great time! Now I am itching to see the chandelier! I love things that are made from this and that!
ReplyDeleteLeo is definitely a this and that craftsman.
DeleteGlad you enjoyed the family gathering and had fun, even if you didn't partake of the main dish.
ReplyDeleteIt's always good to see some the relatives that don't live close and to meet Leo's friends and neighbors. But best of all is when we can make my 83 year old father-in-law happy.
