I am thankful for surprise lilies.
Every year in August, when everyone and everything is getting tired of the heat, surprise lilies pop up. They faithfully made their appearance again this year. Seeing them brought a smile to my face and for that I am thankful.
FYI: They are called surprise lilies because their foliage happens at a different time than their blooms. The leaves come up and die off in the spring and the blooms pop up a couple of months later seemingly overnight. Surprise!
Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteI had a surprise red canna flower this morning. It's been so dry here recently and I hadn't watered at all, and somehow my red canna pushed out a flower overnight that was completely unexpected. So I rewarded it by watering it thoroughly this morning, along with the rest of my garden.
It was doubly nice since usually the only "surprise" flowers that I get are flowering weeds, of which we have many right now since Greg isn't here to mow the "lawn". I told him that if I have to do it before he comes back, I'm buying a ride-on mower. Maybe I'll pay my neighbor to do it for me, he mows lawns for a living after all!
Have a lovely Sunday. How's the paperwork going? Have you spent much time petting your cats?
Canna lilies are so pretty. That must have been a good surprise this morning. I hope it brought a smile to your face also.
DeleteThe paperwork is still all-consuming, but progressing well. Looks like this deal is going to fly. And yes, the cats are getting a lot of petting these days. :)
After 30 years here some expressions still allude me. If the deal is going "to fly", it's good, right? LOL.
DeleteYes, it is good. It's going to fly instead of crash landing.
DeleteI love lilies and am surprised I have never heard of surprise lilies before. Gonna have to get me some!
ReplyDeleteThey come up year after year once they're established, but I am still surprised every year. Mine are in the middle of a bunch of daffodils and day lilies, so I never notice when the leaves are out. Unfortunately, their blooms only last a week or so.
