We like to visit zoos and try to if we can when we're traveling. Not only do we like seeing the animals, we like the lush landscaping that often accompanies them. Below are a few pictures from the National Zoo in Washington, D.C., the Baltimore Zoo, the Toronto Zoo, the Philadelphia Zoo and the North Carolina Aquarium.
Beautiful zoo! Was surprised to see a Penguin!
ReplyDeleteThe penguin picture was from the Baltimore Zoo. They also have a polar bear.
DeleteI love zoos, as well. I think a lot of folks think of zoos are just for children, and once kids are grown the parents stop going. But as you said, there is much to see, and the landscape is always stunning. There are many smaller zoos around the country, which have lower admission fees, yet are just as fun to visit.
ReplyDeleteWe also love our local aquarium, but that would be "A", and not "Z".
If you were going to visit the zoo very often, it would pay to join one of the zoo organizations. That will get you in free at most zoos in the country. We have done that in years past, and it was a big cost saver.
DeleteI love your pictures and you chose lovely zoos to visit.
ReplyDeleteI have a love hate relationship with zoos. I know they perform a service in preventing the extinction of certain species and without them we may never see some of these animals outside of television or videos. But, some zoos still are very old and do not provide a good place for these animals to live happily. The Erie, Pa zoo is one of those. The habitats for the animals is little bigger than the size of a jail cell. It's the gorillas and the orangutan's that show their displeasure the most and leave me uncomfortable.
I'm naive enough, that I thought all of the old style zoos were gone. I'm sorry that there is still one like that in Erie. Zoos are very expensive to run and funding for them is often one of the first things to be cut. It seems like if you don't have enough money to run one properly, it should be closed and the animals absorbed into other places.
DeleteCongratulations! You made it through the alphabet! I love zoos. Our zoo is in flux right now as they are trying to make the habitats more comfortable for the animals. Since it is land locked with no room for expansion, it means fewer exhibits. I had rather have fewer animals living comfortably than more with less room.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that they are redoing your zoo. As Lois, mentioned there are still some old, bad zoos around.
DeleteAwwww, those are great photos. Is there an animal hiding somewhere in the one with the cactus?
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on finishing the challenge! :-)
I often put in "Find the animal/insect" photos, but this one is sort of tongue in check about the "lush' landscapes I mentioned.
DeleteBeautiful pictures! Congrats on finishing the challenge. Thanks for visitng me while it was going on.

It's easy to get a good picture when zoo animals are the subjects.
