Here are some things I saw this week
during a Second Look.
The sun came out after the snow ended yesterday. A very beautiful sight although the brightness was a little hard on the eyes. |
Mourning dove. A pair of doves spent the day with us but we haven't seen them since. |
Can you find the camouflaged sparrow in this picture? (Hint: Look on the branch.) |
You can see this sparrow better with its fluffed feathers trying to keep warm. |
This junco has also fluffed up trying to keep warm. |
These three deer were part of a herd of ten that were visiting one afternoon. Notice their darker winter coats. |
Sunset |
Ha! I had to put on my reading glasses to see the sparrow!
ReplyDeleteWe woke up to an unexpected 6 or 7 inches of snow tomorrow, with more on the way. That's lake-effect snow for ya. It's more the frigid temps that get to me than the snow. Yesterday I thought about snowshoeing for exercise ... then I thought, nah, I'll go to the basement and try my exercise DVD instead ... so I guess I'm right there with you, admiring the out-of-doors while staying in my heated home!
We haven't had a lot of snow, but we've had more low temps than usual which makes the snow and ice stick around longer. Soon spring will be here though. :)
DeleteI'm with you, staying indoors in the cold. This is one cold winter. Love the deer with their winter coats. You've got a good eye, I don't think I would have spotted the sparrow. I've seen a few birds here too and worry about them with such extremely cold temps for this area.
ReplyDeleteBesides the change in color, the deer's coats look a lot thicker than they did in the summer. They look a lot warmer than the birds to me.
DeleteBeautiful pictures as usual. My second looks were either from the house or the car. It ws cold and windy here ( Yes, I am a Southern Wimp)
ReplyDeleteCold is cold no matter where you are and the wind just adds insult to injury. I think you were smart to observe from the car and the house.
DeleteThe snow looks so beautiful! We are soggy, but mild, here.
ReplyDeleteOur pair of ducks is back at the pond, now. They must be thinking it's spring!
I've seen some birds flying around here like it's spring. However, I also saw them trying to hang on as the feeder was blowing around. Today it was windy and tonight it will be zero or below. We may be breaking some records with that.
