We're preparing for the first snow today and depending on where you live, they are calling for a couple of inches to a foot. However before this, we were treated to a lovely weekend in the 60's when we took the opportunity to do some yard work. However, it was less successful than I had anticipated because the ground was still frozen hard. All I hope for in this fluctuating weather is that it is safe to travel early Thanksgiving day when we are taking a seven hour trip for a family filled holiday.
Here's what I saw this week
during a Second Look.

Despite the cold weather, the volunteer petunia has not totally died yet. |
|
However, the cold weather has rendered these hosta leaves translucent. |

All that are left of the balloon flowers are their seed pods. |
|
Even though they are wilted, the mums are still adding a bit of color to the landscape. |

This woolly worm was frozen hard. I assume that this is just part of its winter hibernation. |
Hope you have safe travels! Your weather sounds worse than ours. It's so hard to predict at this time of year. We are supposed to get a couple of inches tomorrow but I don't think travel will be too awful. We have found that very few people are traveling early on T-giving so at least we don't have to contend with traffic as well as snow. Hopefully that will be the case for you as well.
ReplyDeleteTheo made it home last night before it all started. For that, I am very thankful. I think we'll be okay tomorrow except for one area through the mountains that is always bad no matter what the weather around it looks like. But we've got the car winterized and ready to go. Have a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving with your family, Kris.
DeleteI hope your travel went well and you had a great Thanksgiving :) We had a crazy storm on "Thanksgiving" day here in Brisbane, with hailstones the size of golf balls, so it actually looked like snow! That's the closest we ever get to snow!
ReplyDeleteOur trip went well with mostly dry roads. Those were some large hailstones. Did they do much damage?
DeleteGlad you had a nice trip. It's wonderful to travel and wonderful to get home, especially if you beat the bad weather!
ReplyDeleteYou are right about it being good to be home again. I hope your trip went well also.
