Today, I'm going to drink more water.
Drinking the recommended amount of water has always been a problem for me, but I'm trying to correct that. Do you drink easily and often like the males do in my family or do you struggle to fit in all in like I do?
Ha! Well, maybe the males in your family drink water easily, but I'm starting to believe that CatMan is some sort of a camel. Seriously, we'll go for a long bike ride on a hot day and I'll bring 2 bottles of water (homemade Gatorade actually) and I'll drink through it and need to stop to fill up again at least once. Meanwhile, CatMan only drinks a few sips from his water bottle. He's on some interesting medications for his nerve injury - and one of the side effects is that it makes one "retain water" so I wonder if that's part of it.
ReplyDeleteAnyhow, have you ever read the book "Water Cure" by Dr. F. Batmanghelidj? It's a little bit "out there" but very interesting. I've got low blood pressure and tend to dehydrate easily, but I find that when I'm vigilant about staying hydrated I feel much better in general.
I just checked. Our library does not have "Water Cure" by Dr. B. One of the problems I have with drinking water is that it fills my stomach up fast and then I'm too full. I've always been a snacker/small meal person since I was born, so my stomach doesn't hold much at any one time. That's one of my excuses. But I can do better than I am. I've just got to keep working on it.
ReplyDeleteInteresting... I don't have that problem. I'm more of a stuff myself three times a day sort of a person! :-)
DeleteBack when I was working I used to bring a bottle of water to work (a glass bottle that I refilled at home with filtered water) and set it on my desk. I then had the goal of finishing the whole thing before I went home for the day. Generally, if it's there, I'll drink it - even if it's just a few sips at a time.
CatMan NEVER drinks, but he does enjoy eating ice, and he swears he gets plenty of water that way. I don't like ice because it makes my teeth hurt, but maybe you could trick yourself into getting more fluids by sucking on ice cubes or something?
I do do better when I have my water bottle at work, but recently I've forgotten it. However, I don't think the ice cubes would work for me. I love chewing ice which isn't supposed to be good for your teeth--can create small invisible fractures that can grow supposedly. I don't think I could resist the urge to chew before it all melted.
DeleteI'm curious about Catman and his lack of water intake. Next time he goes to the doctor, he should ask if the water retaining medicine is the reason he's not thirsty. Tell him the blog world wants to know.
Ha! Well I'd love it if he'd ask his doctor too... but I an't gonna hold my breath on that one. Firstly because he has a whole slew of much more pressing medical issues to discuss when he's at the doctor, and secondly because he doesn't think his fluid intake is abnormally low, he thinks mine is abnormally high! It's one of those pick yur battles sort of things. :-)
DeleteI drink only coffee and water during the day, so I really don't have much trouble drinking my water. I tend to keep a large glass on the counter and just take large sips throughout the day. It probably helps that I don't like iced drinks, so room temp water works perfectly for me. I only wish water filled me up!
ReplyDeleteGood for you for drinking water all day long. Sipping seems to be a key for several people.
