or How do you hang your toilet paper?
Does it matter to you how your toilet paper is hung? Does it matter whether it unrolls from the top or from the bottom? Apparently it does to many people. Advice columnist, Ann Landers, said the toilet paper debate was one her biggest topics over the years. I, on the other hand, never paid much attention to the way toilet paper was hung until I met Ward. After a couple of years of me and my willy-nilly ways of hanging, he asked if I could hang it so it would unroll from the top. That seemed like a small enough request, so I tried to comply. Eventually, I got the hang of it (pun attended) and over the top became my preferred way also. He gave several reasons of why over the top was the superior method--none of which I can remember now. However, I have learned that always having it hung the same way makes it easier to unroll it in the dark. No guessing if its over or under. We have passed this method onto Wally and Theo also.
So all was right with the world until this weekend when someone else was in the house and just happened to install a new roll in our guest bathroom. And guess what? They put it on so the tissue unrolled from the bottom! Oh no. What to do? I decided to sit back and watch what was going to happen next. Would we be able to use up this roll without changing it? Or would one of us not be able to help ourselves and fix it? Well, it took about eight hours until I noticed that it had been changed. I'm not sure who did it, but my bets are on the person who taught me the over the top method in the first place. And if the truth be told, I also felt a lot better when it was "fixed".
Do you have a preferred way of hanging your toilet paper?
Over, definitely over.
ReplyDeleteI think you are with the majority from what I have seen and read.
DeleteToilet paper must ALWAYS roll over. Anything else is just plain crazy!!! :)

If I ever come to your house, I will be sure to remember that. :)
DeleteHa! Well, I personally prefer over, but under does make it more difficult for the cats to unroll it!
ReplyDeleteYou know, it's been a while since we've had cats playing with the TP. I guess they're older now and prefer other things. Are you still having that kind of fun at your house?
DeleteI have never really paid much attention :) But at the moment I don't have anywhere to hang it so the roll just sits on top of the package of rolls.
ReplyDeleteThat works too.
DeleteGosh I'd never given this serious issue any thought before! I'm off to see whether we're overers or underers - I suspect under - doesn't 'over' make it too easy for loo paper to accidentally whiz off the roll uncontrollably? Or is that just my repressed British psyche - maybe I need to let it all hang out a bit more...
ReplyDeleteIt only whizzes off the roll when the roll is too big for the holder. However, I'm sure that's one of the arguments against hanging it over. Good for you that you've never thought about it.
DeleteI grew up with the toilet paper having to be hung and used with the under method. I was told it was messy looking to have it hung over. My boys followed what I did but informed me it was more sanitary to hang it over, that said I expect each roll to be hung with it pulled from under. It is neater, probably from being pounded in my head from a young age.
ReplyDeleteSo how has your family survived the latest twist in the bathroom?
Very interesting. Neater and cleaner. I hadn't heard either one of those. The family survived just fine. Ward changed it as soon as he found it, so I'm not sure anyone else noticed.
DeleteI'm an over'er too! I don't think the BF cares or notices, but the past house, it didn't roll properly the wrong way, so I'd switch it. I don't cause any education policies though - my crazy extends too far already (weighing and separating my rubbish, wiping down benches etc etc - all things WAY too finnicking for the BF)
ReplyDeleteWhy does your trash get weighed? Do you have to pay by weight to have it removed?
