Here's what I saw this week during a Second Look.
The patio was definitely dirty. |
Wally lashed together a walking stick and a broom to help reach the second story of the house. |
This swallowtail was resting on the freshly cut grass. |
There was one big toad and several little ones living in this window well. (See one big and one little on the window sill, another little on the leaf on the bricks.) |
I uncovered this beetle while weeding. |
This grasshopper jumped on top of the grill. |

In case anyone's wondering about the water that it took to pressure wash things, I am lucky to live in an area that doesn't have water problems. We are on a well and never have had any problems--especially this year with all of the rain that we have had.
That butterfly picture is beautiful :) Not such a fan of the toad though, not because it's ugly, but because we have them here and they're major pests.
ReplyDeleteWe have them around but not enough to be pests. They provide entertainment for the cats as they jump around outside the windows.
DeleteWe see more snakes than toads here. My son recently purchased a power washer, I think men love those things. Love the picture of the butterfly, and would love to have a brick planter on my patio.
ReplyDeleteWe have snakes around, but only see them occasionally--one time in the house. They're okay except for that instance. I also like the brick planter but it has a very awkward placement on the patio.
DeleteI live in the desert. The toad looks so wonderful! I have heard they are good for the garden; I know the gardening catalogs like to sell toad houses.
ReplyDeleteToads eat a lot of insects so they can be good for the garden in that way. I've never seen a toad house. I'll have to look that up.
DeleteYour patio was dirty, funny how fast that goes. Love your pictures like always. And i remember that butterfly, as a larf it ate with his family all my parsley. And i mean it was gone......it started growing again from the roots, maybe i will be faster this time.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like some of these butterfly and moth caterpillars can devour plants overnight. But most of them are pretty later. Good luck with your parsley this go around
