I am thankful for the insulation in my house.
Blown insulation in our attic |
When I was growing up, I lived in a house that had no insulation. In the wintertime, we didn't spend much time in our living room because it was so cold that there was often frost on the inside of the windows as well as the electrical outlets. We had to wait for warmer weather to spend time in there again.
Now I live in a house with good insulation, and I really appreciate that during these cold, single digit days. I am warm and toasty no matter what room I am in. What a luxury.
You just reminded me of a time when we, too, had a very cold home in winter. We were newly married and in a rental without insulation, and really poor heat, living in Utah, where winters are cold. I'm so thankful to not be living in that house any more.
ReplyDeleteWe had space heaters and you had to get really close to them to get warm. Then one side of you would get really warm and the other side would be really cold and you'd have to turn to even things out. It was sort of like cooking something under the broiler.
DeleteOnce again, I'm thankful for heat and I know you appreciate it when I say that.
This was a rental, so we knew we would move soon, and at least we had that thought. But the final straw for us was no heat in the bathroom, and the water in the toilet would get a thin layer of ice in it over night. They have since torn down that house. Gee, I wonder why?!
DeleteNo heat in the bathroom. Brrrr. I often think about my grandmother or pioneers that didn't have any heat until they got up in the morning and had to start a fire to get things going. They were strong women.
DeleteI too have lived in a couple of places with very little if any insulation, winters were horrible and uncomfortable, my current apartment is great except for the front window, have to figure out how to fix that problem before next winter.
ReplyDeleteUnless that window is going to be your indoor refrigerator.
