A Second Look, July 18, 2012

The extreme heat was back this week along with humidity. Meaning, I spent most of my time indoors. However, I did venture out to take some pictures of butterflies because this week found the arrival of  swallowtails along with variegated fritillary. They joined the cabbage whites and skippers that have been around for awhile.

Also, I found a monarch caterpillar. We'll see if it can turn into a butterfly before a hungry bird has a tasty snack.

See the butterflies I found this week during a Second Look.

  1. One of the things I love about your blog is the wildlife...it's so different to ours. I definitely have butterfly envy. It's been so wet here that I have hardly seen a single butterfly this year.

  2. Glad you liked seeing the butterflies. I am really enjoying the swallowtails. They are what I see out my kitchen window. Some years the humming birds are right along beside them, but I haven't seen any this year.

  3. Amazing to see Swallowtails and Hummingbirds out of your kitchen window! There is a Swallowtail subspecies that is native to the UK, but it's very rare and I've never seen one.
