Thankful Sunday--July 22, 2018

I am thankful for zucchini season.

Our current favorite way to fix them is grilling.

'Tis the season that zucchinis abound. Little ones to huge ones are everywhere. They are in the garden and they are in bags that mysteriously show up in front of the garage. Zucchinis are a versatile vegetable that can be used for many things. For this abundance of zucchini, I am thankful.

And some ideas for cooking zucchini from a previous post.

  1. Uh, June, it's July 22. I'm choosing to believe that you decided to be frugal with your 2's :)

I love zucchini as well and I wish some would mysteriously appear on my doorstep too! I can't seem to grow them myself, or any other squash for that matter. Even if I get a beautiful plant and it does start bearing fruit, the powdery mildew appears and kills everything :(

That's right, I was being frugal with my 2s. :) It wasn't that since I got a new keyboard, some of the strokes don't register especially with my left hand and I don't do much proofreading.

It's interesting that you don't get squash. Around here it's one of the easiest things to grow. And in my experience, even with the powdery mildew, which almost always happens, you usually get fruit. Maybe FL is just too humid.

  2. We also don't get a lot of zucchini, typically. Last year we got a decent amount (i.e. I wasn't swimming in zucchini ....) but that's fairly unusual. It typically grows well in Michigan so something must be wrong with our soil or light in the garden ...

Grilled zucchini is the best! Actually, I love most grilled veggies--it's my favorite way to eat them. Enjoy!

    1. The one in the picture was a yellow one and huge. Theo got it off a free table at work. Sometimes, the big ones aren't so great, but it grilled well.

  3. I am glad they are abundant at your house and not mine!I love yellow squash but am not partial to zucchini at all. I eat them and don'r turn them down but I mainly use them for zucchini noodles to be topped with something else so I don't have to taste them.

    1. Zucchini may be an acquired taste. I didn't like them at all when I was a kid, but grew to like them as an adult.

    1. They were. Just a little oil and salt and some grilling and they were very good.

  5. I'm glad that you are glad for an abundance of zucchini! I grew some last year and all but two plants died and I got a total of 2 small zucchini from 1 of them! The other didn't produce any fruit and neither did the patty pan squash plants! Gets too hot, too soon, here.

    1. Ah, but you have citrus in your yard. That's a wonderful sounding exotic to me. :)
