Thankful Sunday, January 13, 2019

I am thankful for a snow day.

We've had a lot of rain this year, but not a lot of snow. In fact only one time in November. That is until now. It started snowing last night and is supposed to snow all day. While we shouldn't accumulate huge amounts, it's just enough to cancel all activities. A forced snow day at home. Time to watch an old movie on TV, make a pot of soup, and work on some of those things that never seem to make it to the top of the list.

For this quiet day at home, I am thankful.

Details:
Movie is "Born to Dance" on TCM
Soup is Cauliflower, Spinach Soup. A recipe adapted from WW
Activity: Sorting a basement closet. I know that doesn't sound like fun, but the payoff of an organized closet at the end is all so rewarding in my slightly OCD mind.

    1. Snow is very pretty and puts a hush on things. The neighbors got together and helped clear each others driveways which makes the day even better.

  2. Oh, that looks like a perfect winter scene! You've made excellent use of a snow day! How nice of the neighbors to help each other with clearing the driveways!

    1. Ward likes to shovel snow, but I don't, so I was really happy that it was a team effort.

  3. I'm jealous! We had a fair amount of snow in November but not much since then. It's supposed to get dramatically colder here next weekend, so maybe ...

    1. Here the no snow in December was the first time in a very long time that that has happened. Today we've had a second wave in the last hour or two that was not expected. Now everything is covered with a few inches. Our neighbor went out for a walk in the neighborhood in her tennis shoes because the streets were clear and came home 45 minutes later with snow covering her shoes. I'm not sure what this means for the morning since it will be cold and the roads will be icy. We tend to shut things down sooner here than further to the north where snow accumulations happen more often.

One part of me wants to have the library closed so I won't have to go into work, but the other part of me really wants to make my hair appointment for tomorrow. We'll see what the morning brings.

    1. This weekend we're expecting another "weather event"--freezing rain, sleet, and snow. Unfortunately, that kind of weather is not so beautiful and peaceful. It's worse to go out in than snow.

  5. Enjoy the calm that comes with a snow day! It's snowing here today too.

    1. Here's hoping for clear roads and a calm landscape for the snow you are having. You don't always get both.
