Thankful Sunday--March 3, 2013

I am thankful for taxes.

Actually, I am thankful that Ward and I are both employed so that we need to pay taxes.

(Ward may have a few more words to add about how complicated the tax system is and maybe a flat tax is the way to go, but we'll save that for another day.)

    1. We've spent most of the weekend working on my parents taxes. We haven't started ours yet. It's not something I like to do, so I had to change my thinking to something positive before I went crazy.

  2. That's a positive way of thinking about it. I hope your tax will be spent well...

    1. Don't we all hope our taxes are well spent. The problem is everyone has a different idea of what they think is the best way to spend them and can't come to agreement.

  3. I started our taxes this past week. It's chore that I just have to do. I'm trying to tackle one small bit per day. Once it's done I can go back to not thinking about it.
I'm with your husband on how it would be so much simpler if we all paid a flat percentage, no loopholes.

    1. That's the way I have to approach a difficult chore--a little at a time or I would never do it. I still have a lot to do for my parents taxes and then I can start ours. Fun,fun.

    2. Wow, I'm feeling thankful that being public sector employees with no other taxable income, our tax is really straightforward, deducted as we earn, so no forms to fill in...Phewee!

  4. Oh, taxes...We finally got all of our papers together and ready for our appointment on Friday. I think, after that I will join you at having a positive outlook on taxes :) But now I can't wait to get them done!

    1. I think this time of year, we all just want them done. Even if we owe, we want them done. We can mail our payment later. Good luck. I hope your appointment goes well.

  5. I am thankful that I don't have to pay tax :) My scholarship is tax-free and my income from my casual jobs is so low that I always get all of my tax back.

Our financial year ends in June, so that is when we start doing our taxes. I didn't realise different countries had it at different times.

    1. April 15 is our deadline every year. We get a couple of days extension this year because congress couldn't agree whether or not some tax breaks were going to be extended. The instructions and such were printed later than usual.

I work for the county government and our financial years ends in June also.
