Was that what your doctor's recommended?

Flour can have eggs for bugs (weevils?) in it that won't hatch in cold temperatures, thus the storing in the freezer. Sounds gross, but the eggs are not a problem. Ever have flying bugs in your pantry? That's a hatch of these eggs. Also, whole wheat type flours have some fat in their grain and they can grow rancid. Freezing prevents this.
Basically, I store flours in the freezer because I don't bake enough to use them up fast enough to prevent the above problems.Live and Learnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13493777474885053903noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6315851262843522940.post-4126764791302800252016-03-24T16:47:35.624-04:002016-03-24T16:47:35.624-04:00We have an upright freezer. I didn't want a chest freeze because t think I was traumatized as a child with my mom putting me on the chest freezer 2-3 times a day to do my exercise. Oh and I'm so short, in order to get to the bottom I would probably have to stand a stool :). Question: What is the purpose of putting flour in the freezer? Just curious.Justlittlecajunmehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14994373567431999838noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6315851262843522940.post-75704249916117700032016-03-14T11:37:10.532-04:002016-03-14T11:37:10.532-04:00Similar for us--our cat is an indoor cat but our f...Similar for us--our cat is an indoor cat but our friendly neighbor cat isn't. We have indoor cats, but the boy from next door carried them in from his house. Our vet said that he rarely sees a bad infestation these days because of Frontline and other similar products. Of course, we weren't treating our indoor cats. I'm glad you've got things under control.Live and Learnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13493777474885053903noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6315851262843522940.post-3183836076268724062016-03-14T07:03:30.923-04:002016-03-14T07:03:30.923-04:00I hope you have some good labels or you might be d...I hope you have some good labels or you might be defrosting some interesting things for dinner. :)Live and Learnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13493777474885053903noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6315851262843522940.post-36328830530628860472016-03-14T03:22:07.227-04:002016-03-14T03:22:07.227-04:00Ha! I burned out our vacuum doing it. Oh, and LOTS of laundry. But ... we really needed to do some of the work anyway. This just forced us into it. Our refrigerator freezer is pretty full, so I will be moving some of the things to the chest freezer in the basement. I like the every day one to be fairly organized--meaning, I don't want anything to fall out on my head when I open it. :)Live and Learnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13493777474885053903noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6315851262843522940.post-16393995449207505322016-03-13T18:27:05.298-04:002016-03-13T18:27:05.298-04:00If truth be told, part of the reason of the freeze...If truth be told, part of the reason of the freezer clean was that cat pee had gotten under it, so it needed to move. I defrost mine on the same timeline you use, though I declared last summer (after about a 3 year wait) I am going to start doing it yearly just so it won't frost too badly. I've eaten it down to where there's not much left in it, but still more than I can fit in my regular freezer - I must get more disciplined about not buying more until what's in there is gone and the thing is defrosted.EcoCatLadyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15704811319510740473noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6315851262843522940.post-14062750027551378842016-03-13T12:33:31.489-04:002016-03-13T12:33:31.489-04:00That makes it easier. That makes it easier.Strayerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08124298302997708537noreply@blogger.com
