A Parade of Zinnias

With a Few Other Things Thrown In.

Despite the continued HOT weather, there are still a few things blooming around the yard. Among them the zinnias happen to be the happiest. Here are a few pictures of them and some other things I saw along the way.

Zinnia

Coreopsis ? This is from a pack of wildflower seeds I sowed last year. This is the first year it came up.

Bee on Bachelor's Button. Notice the pollen sacs on its back legs.

Zinnia

Mushrooms growing under one of the pine trees.

Zinnia

White wild flower (or some might call a weed). Does anyone know the name for this?

Zinnia

A new egg in the wren's nest

Zinnia

An out-of-sync cicada

Well, that's it for this go round.
Until next time...

    1. You can always count on zinnias for a good show.

  2. Your pink zinnia with the yellow inside is a flower within a flower within a flower. :) All of them are gorgeous. I'm fully enjoying all the flowers in bloom during my walks and bike rides around our neighborhood. There's one house where the garden looks like something out of Better Homes and Gardens. Hopefully the people living there don't think I'm some sort of weird stalker as I always slow down so I can look at it more closely.

Your mushroom picture is fun. A friend recently sent me a picture of Chicken Of The Woods fungus growing on an oak tree near her. Apparently it's edible although she isn't planning on trying that anytime soon. I had never heard of it before and I enjoyed learning about it.

Looks like coreopsis to me but I'm definitely not an authority!!

    1. I have never hear of Chicken of the Woods fungus before, so I looked it up. I have seen it around and understand how it got its name. Although many people do, I am afraid to eat wild mushrooms and the like. I can take or leave most mushrooms, so it's not worth the risk for me.

Our yard definitely does not look like Better Homes and Gardens, but things are shaping up a bit as we can plant a few more things as the construction equipment is going away. Next up is mulch in the front.

  3. Such beautiful flowers! Now I am wishing I had asked M to buy me some zinnia seeds for my garden!

Your white wild flower might be White Campion (Silene latifolia).

    1. It's not too late. I would ask M for some zinnia seeds. Your weather is warm enough you don't have to worry about having a long enough growing season for them.

I think you might be right about the White Champion, but I'm going to give the leaves one more look tomorrow to be sure. Whatever it is, I like it.

    2. Yes, do take a look at the leaves, too. It's usually easier to identify a plant when you have both flowers and leaves. :)

    3. The leaves have confirmed it. It's a White Champion. Not that I will remember that, but I will remember that I just have to ask Bless. :)
