A Second Look--November 10, 2016

While turning into my driveway yesterday, I noticed an unusual sight--a day lily blooming. Not something you usually see this time of year. Well, all of the work that was waiting for me inside just had to wait a little longer while I went to get my camera. And as long as I was out there, I did a quick Second Look around the yard. Once again, there was nothing like a look at nature to put me in a good frame of mind.

Here are a few things I saw this week
during a Second Look.

There were two more little day lily blooms besides this one.

I also found a coneflower blooming in another part of the yard. We have had a couple of hard frosts, so I was surprised to find this.

I have been collecting seeds from plants, including these marigolds, to take to the new house.

The squirrels are beginning to enlarge this hole on the birdhouse for a winter home. We already had to repair a large hole they made another year.

While there is still plenty of color to be found, many trees have now lost most of their leaves.

  1. Are you having a warmer than usual fall, there? Love seeing the flowers!

    1. Overall, this is not a warmer fall. However, we have had a couple of warm days that may have tricked the flowers.

  2. How pretty! We are now in the middle of a drought and nothing is blooming. Even the goldenrod is hay colored.

    1. Hope you get regular rain soon. I don't think I've ever seen golden rod hay colored.

  3. Look at your beautiful blue skies! We have been having days with weather like that and I love it. After my mom's appointment yesterday, the weather was so pretty that we made an impromptu diversion to drive by Lake Michigan to enjoy the beauty of autumn. I'm sure I've said this before, but I feel like fall begs us to take a break from our usual activities and to appreciate how lovely it is. The days of autumn are fleeting ... yes, I'm waxing philosophical right now ...

    1. I like you waxing philosophical. That's a wonderful way to think about fall. Certainly better than where my mind goes sometimes--cold weather is coming, ugh.

I'm glad that you had a nice drive with your mother. I'm sure that the impromptu drive was a good thing for everyone.

    1. Another good way to think about things. Fall blooms are encouraging. I can apply that to many things right now in the chaos of moving. Thanks for the thought.

  5. I am so glad you took the time to take a second look and share it with us! How lovely to see the flowers blooming at a time when most things are preparing for winter.

    1. Finding those day lilies was certainly a lovely part of my day. I need to remember to look around at things like that when things get a little crazy.

  6. What a surprise! Nothing much is alive here, even the mums are dying off. We expect temps to fall into the 20s tonight so by tomorrow I expect there won't be anything left to enjoy.

  7. We are only supposed to get to 30 tonight. We haven't had 20's yet. That's cold for sure. The mums are starting to fade here as well as a lot of other things have turned brown. That's why it's so nice to see these flowers showing up here and there.
