Thankful Sunday--October 15, 2016

I am thankful for the beauty of a full moon.

Last night we had a full moon.  It was both bright and shadowy giving hints of craters. Occasionally, thin clouds covered it, but mostly it was in view. What I always find amazing is how bright the moon can be and how, it can light your way in the dark. For this beautiful moon in the night sky, I am thankful.

Just in case you were wondering:

The full moon is the brightest object in the night sky. It has an apparent magnitude (measure of a space object´s brightness as seen by an observer on Earth) of -12.74 compared with the Sun's of -26.74.

  1. Great picture! I think it would be fun to do more stargazing, but I like to sleep at night. :)

    1. Thanks. When I try to capture what I see in the sky is when I want a better camera. My eye can see so much more than a fuzzy blob. However, last night there were some interesting clouds framing the moon that made the picture better than it might have otherwise been.

Ward has a telescope and went through an astronomy phase. I'm not that much into stargazing, but was thrilled to see the rings around Saturn, moons of Jupiter, etc. He's still interested, but hasn't had time for it for a while. Maybe he will pick it up again sometime.

  2. I really like the moon in pictures but I really don't like it when it's full moon out, hahaha. Firstly, I really seem to be more cranky when it's a full moon, and secondly I don't sleep as well when it's so bright outside. I wish we had shutters here just like in France.

    1. Do you think you're more cranky because you don't sleep as well? :)
This moon was definitely bright enough that it lit the bedroom.
