Thankful Sunday--December 20, 2015

I am thankful for Christmas fun.

Even though I have been distracted by other things, I've managed to have some fun this Christmas season. And for these fun times, I am thankful.

We have Christmas lights up outside. Nothing fancy, but just enough to put a smile on my face when I come home in the dark (which these days is before 5 PM).

We have our tree up and Wally and Theo were home for the decorating. A win-win situation. These are also lights I enjoy in the evening (and the morning.) We have a lot of dark these days.

Santa visited our street the other night riding on a fire engine. For the past few years, Santa has been too busy to visit this way, so it was a fun surprise to see him again with his firefighter friends. He stopped and talked to all of the kids.

Ward and I went to see the Christmas Carol at the local theater. It was a one man play/reading and it was amazing. After a short while, you forgot that there was only one actor.

  1. Awww... I love Christmas lights, even though I'm far too lazy to put any up myself. And a one man reading of a Christmas Carol sounds marvelous! Marley was dead... dead as a door nail!

    1. We watched part of the Christmas Carol movie with George C. Scott as Scrooge a week after we saw the "play" and I can honestly say that the one man reading did not lack anything compared to the movie. Dickens himself used to travel and preform his works this way.

  2. Sounds like fun, the Santa on the fire truck. I put up lights but keep forgetting to turn them on. I put up the fake tree I have finally, but can't get the lights it came with to work at the top and haven't decorated it. Your outside tree is beautiful! So are the ornaments on your inside tree. I think I'll decorate mine today.

    1. One of the best Christmas things we did was to buy a timer for our outside lights. They come on at dusk and go off when we set the timer for (8 hours later). No more worrying about remembering to turn them on or to turn them off.

I hope you had fun today decorating your tree.

  3. Lights and music are my favorite fun things about Christmas. We have a more modest outdoor light display than you do, but it makes me smile (2 pre-lit trees by the door, a greenery arch over the door, wreaths/greenery/an old fashioned sled by the door).

I talked my son into attending a free Christmas music concert last Sunday at a local church. They have an orchestra and had several choirs singing, mostly Bach. My son is in band so he enjoyed hearing skilled musicians play. It's been years since I've been able to do something like that so I had fun.

The Christmas Carol play sounds great!

    1. Maybe you're starting a tradition with your son. My husband used to go to concerts, mostly symphony, with his mother. There were four kids and this was his special thing. She gave him a good appreciation for classical music and some very special memories.

  5. Love your lights, not over done and just enough to show you were waiting for Christmas. How nice to have your boys home to help decorate the tree too. A lot of good memories tend to surface when children return home to take part in the traditions they used to share with us preparing for the different holidays.

I hope your Christmas day was as nice as the days leading up to it.
