Thankful Sunday--October 11, 2015

I am thankful for the entertainment that animals provide both inside and outside our house.

  1. Oh, that picture is priceless. I can feel the tension in your cats ...

    1. Even though they are indoor cats, my cats see plenty of activity. Unfortunately, I don't put out pumpkins much anymore because the squirrels eat them right away.

    2. Hmm, I've never had squirrels eat my pumpkins--hope they don't learn that trick! My cat is an indoor cat, too, and he loves to stalk all sorts of critters from the window. We have a very friendly neighbor cat, but my cat isn't a fan of his, especially since my kids go out and pet the neighbor kitty.

    3. Our cats stalk and "chase" critters from inside also. We have a couple of neighborhood cats that come by outside that drive my cats crazy. I think it's a territory thing. We have even had problems with cats spraying outside our doors and windows when "fighting" with our cats. It took a while to figure out that the smell was coming from the outside instead of the inside.

  2. Nothin' is quite as fun as squirrel-o-vision... well, except maybe bird-o-vision! The Gray Boy has taken to hanging out on my back deck, and Smoky is teaching him to talk. It's hilarious. There's much less growling than there used to be, but I think Smoky is jealous that the Gray Boy actually gets to chase the birds for real! I tried to explain to him that I think he's really getting the better end of the deal, but he wasn't so sure...

    1. It's just a matter of time before Gray Boy joins you inside. You're doing all of the conditioning now. :) Do the other cats react as much as Smoky? Lucky is my cat that reacts the most to the other cats with raised fur on his back and growling. The others just watch them and occasionally "chase" them from window to window.

  3. I can hear your cats' thoughts right now -- "com'n Mom, let us out, just for a minute, and we'll take care of that pesky squirrel for you!"

I use a fake pumpkin on my front porch, as the squirrels get to any real pumpkins long before Hallowe'en! My fake one is not so much fun for the pumpkin smashers in the neighborhood, either. (And I can store the fake pumpkin and reuse, year after year.)

    1. We have pretty much switched to fake pumpkins also. Got them on sale one year after Halloween.

  4. We have a dog, so we don't get a whole lot of indoor stalking. If she sees a chipmunk or squirrel when she goes out, she will give it chase, but she is not a catcher. They scurry and she is happy to "protect" us from invaders.

    1. It's good that your dog is only a stalker. Some dogs are hunters and that makes it hard on their owners when they try to rescue the prey.
