Thankful Sunday--February 1, 2015

I am thankful for my heated mattress pad.

For Christmas Ward got me a heated mattress pad. I didn't think I really needed one, but he did. Every night he would watch me go to bed, curl up into a little ball, and shiver. Well, yes I did that, but I eventually warmed up.

But now when I go to bed, it is warm and I love it. I turn the pad on when I go to brush my teeth and the bed is warm a little later when I climb in. The heat is subtle and can be different on either side of the bed. The wires are very thin so I can't feel them and no plugs are in the way. Ward made sure he got the low voltage variety for the extra safety it affords--a necessity with all of the cats we have around. And as an added bonus, we can keep the thermostat a lot lower at night and still remain very comfortable. That's an energy savings for sure.

Now here's the interesting part. Ward, who never seems to be cold, loves it to. For that and the cozy comfort that it provides for both of us, I am thankful.

    1. I do appreciate warmth this time of year as I always seem to be cold. Hope the snow turns out to be just pretty for you and not a pain on the roads. We're expecting freezing rain tonight.

  2. I used to have one of those and it was great for getting into bed, but my problem is that I always wake up boiling hot in the middle of the night and I really need the "cool spots." So when the whole bed was warm I was miserable and had to get up for half an hour or so to cool off. One would think this was peri-menopause, but I've been that way my whole life. So now I just take a hot bath before bed instead of showering in the morning. Probably not quite as energy efficient but it sure feels luxurious!

    1. This one seems to work very well with the hot/cold subtleties. We turn it on high to get it warmed up, then turn it down to Lo to sleep. There are 9 other settings in between. Lo seems to be just enough to keep us warm, but not too hot. What I like is when I want to stretch my legs out they are not going onto very cold sheets.

    2. My brother and S-I-L have a heated mattress pad. They turn it on before bed to warm up the bed and then turn it off for the night. I'm like Cat--and no, it isn't peri-menopause for me either--I always feel hot in the middle of the night, but at the beginning of the night, I'm cold. I'd have to use the mattress pad the way my brother does. We do have flannel sheets which helps a lot with the "brrrr" factor when getting into bed. That, and snuggling. :)

Hope your freezing rain isn't too bad! I'd rather have snow ...

    3. My husband doesn't like flannel sheets or we'd have those. I think they would help. In the meantime, I love the mattress pad.

  3. How handy! I never thought about a heated mattress pad. Your husband is very thoughtful :-)

    1. I had never heard of them either. I only knew about blankets.

  4. I didn't even know this existed! I am always cold, especially now in the middle of Canadian winter. I have been wearing fleece PJs and socks to bed.

    1. Obviously, I highly recommend it. These kind of things are big around Christmas, so you might be able to get a good price on one now that is on Clearance. Or maybe not in Canada. :)

      Thanks for visiting, Happiness.
