Getaway, Part 2

Friday I told you that my husband and I were going away to a mountain cabin for the weekend. I was really looking forward to it and had romanticized what it was going to be like while at the same time was worried that it might be like another National Lampoon vacation movie.

Well, as with most things, it was somewhere in the middle. Yes, we actually did forget our box of food, but remembered it when we were within a couple of miles of our house. And yes, it did snow, but not as much as anticipated and we were not trapped in our cabin. But all the same, we had a good time on a much needed getaway.

Here are some snapshots from our weekend.

On the way there we did a little sight seeing. The first stop was a religious shrine. It had many outdoor statues and mosaics to see. And as with most religious works of art, they were beautiful.

Next, we took a short hike to some waterfalls. Although the fast moving stream below them was not frozen, the falls were.

Our goal was to arrive before dark and we did.

It snowed that night and the next morning we took a walk to check on the roads. We found them in pretty good shape.

The temperatures had warmed by afternoon, so we went out to find three covered bridges in the area. We found all three and had fun exploring while we were looking for them.

As the sun went down, we headed back to the cabin...

to eat, drink, be merry, and work puzzles.

This afternoon, we're back home to find the cats taking turns sleeping on my coat that I left behind. I'm going to have to snatch it away before the next snow comes tonight. They aren't going to be happy.

  1. Happy Anniversary! I'd love to know more about where and how you found your cabin. Hubby and I are looking for a quiet get away for a few days in April.

    1. A couple of years ago, we rented a cabin in the Smokies in the fall and loved it. We were looking for something similar this time, but closer by. We did a lot of googling and reading of Trip Advisor until we found this one. It's only an hour or so away but we had never heard of it. After we made our reservation, several people told us they knew about the this campground/resort.

I'd figure out what you want--cabin, hotel downtown, amusement park, etc. and then start asking around. I'd also goole and see what you come up with. Sometimes we also go to the Chamber of Commerce page for the near by city or county and we also go the county/state/or national park websites for info. Good luck. Sometimes our problems is there is too much information and we can't focus enough to make up our mind. :)

  2. I'm glad to hear that your trip was nice, and not National Lampoon-esque! Happy Anniversary!

    1. Except for turning around to get the food, everything turned out great. That's what happens when we were both loading the car at different times. Each assumed that other had gotten it.

    1. It was great. Sometimes just getting away is great.

  4. Looks like a beautiful, peaceful weekend. I smiled at your cat picture--our cat would do that, too.

    1. The coat accidentally fell off the hook behind it and landed in the chair. Immediately, one of the cats was on it. Then they all took turns sleeping on the coat and they were still sleeping on it when we got back. However, I've cleaned it of cat hair and have started to wear it again.

  5. Glad you had a wonderful weekend and really glad you got beautiful snow but not so much to ruin the weekend. The picture of the waterfall is gorgeous.

    Love the cat picture also!

    1. Thanks for your well wishes. We woke to a beautiful snow this morning also. However, not enough to cancel work but enough to cause problems getting out of the neighborhood. Sigh.

    2. Then I feel kind of guilty running around doing errands today. We have incredible sun and the temp is in the mid-high 50's

    3. Don't feel guilty. Just enjoy it. It might be your turn for difficult weather next week.

  6. Looks like a fun trip :) We also had a food emergency on my recent trip - we forgot the camping fridge, which was full of food for the week. It was nearly an hour round trip to go back and get it!

It looks like the cats missed you too :)

    1. We were lucky. Our round trip back was only 15 minutes.
