Thankful Sunday--July 13, 2014

I am thankful for fresh blueberries.

Yesterday, Theo and I went blueberry picking in Uncle Billy's patch. Among Theo, me, and the dog, I'm surprised that we actually made it home with some. Blueberries right off the bush are so good. :)

  1. Yummy! Our strawberry season is almost done and we are in the middle of cherry season right now. Blueberries will probably be a little late this year because everything bloomed late after the hard winter we had. Hope you enjoyed your picking--do you have any stocked in your freezer for winter eating?

    1. So far we don't have any in the freezer, but with the next picking we may actually get ahead of our eating. Our strawberry and cherry season sound like they're on the same schedule as yours.

  2. Yum :) I usually buy frozen blueberries because they are much cheaper here, I think the climate is not so good for growing them. But I can definitely appreciate fresh ones :)

    1. I think it may be too hot where you are to grow many blueberries. While I occasionally do eat frozen ones, I mostly just eat them when they are in season.

    2. I have a subscription to Southern Living and they have mentioned some varieties of blueberries that grow in warmer climates, in case you want to check it out, Liz. It still may be too hot where you are but if you are really interested, it might be worth checking out.

  3. Our blueberries are beginning to ripen here. I doubt any will end up in the freezer this year. So I'm watching the sales on frozen blueberries. I can't go to a u-pick farm this time of year, b/c of grass allergies :( But am hopeful I'll find a good sale on them soon.

How have you been enjoying yours so far, just fresh or have you baked anything with them yet?

    1. No baking yet. We just pop a handful in our mouth every time we walk by.

  4. We had our first homegrown blueberries here this year. Enough for one berry each but boy, did they taste good!

    1. One of my sisters lives where blueberries grow in the wild. Now those are really good! I hope you can add to your one berry experience.
